Clearcase on Netapps

Hi, We have our clearcase vobs on Netapps.. When a windows users tries to checkin a file, the windows explorer crashes often.... Any ideas... F740- Ontap6.4.1 (clnt Windows 2000+sp3 with CC 4.2) Regards Rahul

A clarification to Michel's excellent information. "...files are always written to disk, whenever they contain a virus or not." The filer will request a scan for viruses when there is a file extension match and the client request is one of: a) file open b) file rename c) file close (but only if the file was modified) When a file is created there is no scan. When the newly created file is written to, there is no scan. Scanning after each write would kill performance. However, when the file is closed, a scan will occur. We use Trendmicro Server Protect for Network Appliance across multiple filers for a few thousand users. - fairly straightforward setup - easy to administer and monitor. Incidents and outbreaks are well reported - Pattern updates and notification is solid - Our vendor support has been excellent Definitely worth considering against any of the other major vendors. backup question

I am getting a FAS270c for a small project. The users are concerned about the data security and do not want the data to cross the wire to our current backup solution. So, we're limited to a couple of direct attached tape drives on the FAS270 because the amount of data does not justify a small library. Is there anyone else out there doing this? What did you use? Tape Backups

All, As I am fairly new to Network Appliances, I would like your opinions on the best method for backing up a larger system. I am using a spectralogic 245 tape jukebox in stacker mode. I am trying to backup two separate volumes in utilizing a no-rewind device. As we are only in the testing mode, there is currently not that much data to back up, however when in full production, we fully expect a 1000+ users with a disk quota of 1 gig. We are not using any third party application such as Veritas or Legato Networker and are only using the dump and restore commands and the options associated with them. The NetApp documentation really is not that informative and I thought maybe some of the more experienced users out there may have some helpful suggestions. Thank you in advance for any advice, Dan

Hi Jon, I think you have two options: - the first one is to forget about virus scanning on your Filer and rely on antivirus software installed on your workstations and servers ;-) - the second one is to go with the virus protection for CIFS way implemented in Data Ontap.
