Moving ClearCase to Netapp

We currently run ClearCase 4.0 using local disk for our vob and view storage. We're interested in moving the entirety of our ClearCase storage to NetApp. Ideally, we'd like to simply shutdown ClearCase, copy the vobstore and viewstore data to the NetApp filesystems, remount the NetApp filesystems at the same mount-point as the local filesystems had been and restart ClearCase. I've never been given a clear explanation from Rational on whether this would work or not, but the general feeling has been that it won't. When I've pressed for a reason why not, I've been told "because it's not the method that's documented" My question for netapp folks out there is if anyone's attempted what I've described above and if it worked or not. Also if you know it won't work and could explain to me why, I'd appreciate it. Note, our ClearCase is running on HPUX 10.20, the NetApp is configured only for NFS, no CIFS. Let me be the first to say, I could be wrong here, but since 6.0 allows you to offline a volume without rebooting the filer should be able to revert it back without affecting any other volumes. I believe that's what the error message is telling you... > Filesystem version mismatch for destination volume vol1, reverting the > version and aborting transfer. A console message will be > displayed when > this revert is complete. Therefore, look for a revert complete message on the console (and probably /etc/messages) and it should work. SnapMirror would have the same issue for the initial transfer. Basically the filesystems have to match. But since 6.x can revert, it works. dump to remote device via rmt

Hello, I've been dumping my filer to a remote HP DDS-4 drive on a RedHat Linux machine. It's been working great. But now I have more data on my filer than one DDS-4 tape will hold for a level-0 dump. Are there any issues with spanning more than one tape for a dump via rmt? Good morning all, We have 4 clustered F840Cs in our environment. As a backup connection method, we're looking at some type of terminal server that we can connect the filers to that will present the filers serial ports as IP addresses that we can connect to , in order to view the bootup messages etc, with a modem hookup in case of complete network failure. Does anyone else out there have any recommendations on make/model of equipment? Thanks as always, in advance. FTP

Running 536r2 and 61r1 on my filers and I'm unable to get FTP working, the error is exactly like bug 33218. I have set up my qtree secuiry on vol0 to unix and it made no difference. The other message I get back is: 530 /netservice/ftp: no such file or directory. Then these two directories do exsis and permissions are 777 rwx,rwx,rwx. My passwd file is setup as showen in the man pages and the ftpd.enable is on. Anybody have any tricks

MSSQL on NetApp System

We are considering the purchase of a NetApp filer for our SAP system. Our SAP system is running on NT with MSSQL 7.0 database. I am told by NetApp that this is no problem - a great solution! I am told by almost every other NAS (and SAN) solution provider that Microsoft will not support me and that I should put in a SAN system and definitely NOT a NAS system. I would really like to hear from someone who is running MSSQL on a NetApp filer! Thanks in advance! Lori Gartner PS - I can not search the archives on the web because our firewall is blocking port 1999. I apologize if this has been discussed before.
