I think this list has finally, after slightly more than 29 years, run its
course, and unless I hear some cogent objections, I propose to turn it off
on 30/6/2026.
I know it's been useful to some of you over the years, because you've been
kind enough to tell me so. I will try to keep the archives up on a
read-only basis somewhere; I suspect much of it is now of academic
interest only, but deep in my grubby little soul I remain of an academic
bent, so that's reason enough for me to try.
Thanks to all of you for making the list worthwhile. Special thanks to
NetApp for tolerating its existence right from the early days, and a
couple of times intervening on my behalf to ensure deliverability inside
NetApp.

Tom Yates - http://www.teaparty.net
I have worked in logistics for six years. I have deep expertise in warehouse operations, inventory systems, and transportation networks, more than most people on my team. But every time a senior position opened up, someone else got it someone with a certification after their name.
That pattern taught me something nobody says out loud experience gets you in the room. Certification gets you the chair.
What MSSC Supply Chain Logistics Certification Actually Proves
The Manufacturing Skill Standards Council is not a general certification body. It sets the national standard for supply chain and logistics competency in the United States and the Certified Logistics Technician credential is the industry's recognized proof that you meet that standard.
The MSSC Supply Chain Logistics Certification demonstrates expertise in critical areas such as logistics management, supply chain operations, and transportation systems making certified professionals highly sought after by employers. Certified individuals can expect average annual earnings ranging from $55,000 to $85,000 depending on experience and specialization.
That salary range reflects a profession where verified credentials translate directly into operational trust. A logistics technician without recognized certification is replaceable. A Certified Logistics Technician is an asset and employers treat the two very differently.
The Global Demand Picture
The next decade projects remarkable growth in this field, with industry experts predicting a 20–25% expansion in supply chain and logistics roles driven by technological advancements, e-commerce growth, and increasing global trade complexities.
The United States, Germany, China, Japan, and the United Kingdom represent the top markets with the highest demand for supply chain logistics professionals. These countries are experiencing significant transformations in logistics infrastructure, requiring skilled professionals who can navigate complex supply chain networks, implement advanced technologies like AI and blockchain, and optimize operational efficiency.
Emerging markets in India, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates are rapidly expanding their logistics capabilities creating numerous opportunities for certified professionals across manufacturing, retail, technology, and healthcare logistics.
E-commerce is the engine behind much of this growth. Every package that moves from a warehouse to a doorstep passes through a supply chain managed by people like you. The difference between certified and uncertified professionals in that chain is now measurable in salaries, in promotions, and in who gets hired when two candidates have equal experience.
The CLT Exam What You Are Actually Being Tested On
The CLT exam code is CLT full name Certified Logistics Technician 4.0. Exam duration is 120 minutes.
The CLT exam is a comprehensive assessment covering logistics and supply chain management fundamentals, material handling, inventory management, and safety. It also covers warehouse operations, transportation, order fulfillment, quality assurance, customer service, and data analysis within a logistics context. The exam assesses your ability to apply these concepts practically through performance-based questions.
This is not a theory exam. Real CLT questions place you inside operational scenarios, such as a material handler completing a receiving process, an inventory control decision between Just-In-Time and FIFO methods, and a distribution center managing unscheduled deliveries. These are the decisions logistics technicians make daily. The exam tests whether you make them correctly.
120 minutes. 115 questions. Every question counts and the difference between the right answer and the distractor is often a single operational principle applied correctly under pressure.
