MRTG with netcache.

The goop on now.netapp.com is old, and rather clunky. Anybody got any good Netcache MRTG stuff that sucks down all the good stuff w/o firing up wget to grep out data? I'm mainly looking for the equivalent of the sysstat output, and the summary page in NetCache 5.0D6. Thanks in advance. If somebody sends me something, I'll be sure to summarize and repost the good stuff back to the list.

There is a tape drive compatibility matrix here http://now.netapp.com/NOW/knowledge/docs/olio/cert_matrices/tape_drives.shtm l which indicates that F700-series filers require HVD. As this article indicates http://now.netapp.com/Knowledgebase/solutionarea.asp?id=dfaf091a-9bbd-11d4-9 2f7-080020c8339b&resource=&number=19&isExternal=0 (link will be wrapped) you must use fast-wide differential SCSI drives and not single ended drives on an F700-series filer. The compatibility matrix indicates the F840 supports both FWD-HVD and LVD-SE, except for DLT7000 drives. I apologize for getting a little bit off topic... (I doubt many of you are terribly interested in pre-sales issues) Since so many NetApp personnel monitor this discussion list, could someone respond with who would be the best POC for me to call with a laundry list of specific detailed technical questions regarding ATM card drivers and support that is holding up a purchase request for a new filer. quota overhead

Hi, I'm thinking to implement quotas on the filer, but the one thing which concerns me is NFS performance. Can any1 try to quantify quota system's degradation effect on NFS performance? Please elaborate as much as you can. Thanks in advance. Igor

Security Question

I had a question for this group. My company just started to install Filers on our network and I was wandering if there are any products that you use to connect to the Filer to replace the standard telnet command. I know Network Appliance sells SecureAdmin but I was wandering if there are any others out there. Our security group is concerned about using telnet since any passwords that is send is send in clear text. Any suggestions are welcome also if SecureAdmin is being used any input on it would be appreciated. snapmirror bug

Hi, we are running snapmirror here to move a 350GB volume from our F630 to our new F760. Since we set it up last week, I have noticed a 'bug' in the snapmirror procedure: We set up the 2 volumes with the same amount of raw space. However, the source volume had a snap reserve of 5%, so we changed to target volume to snap reserve of 5% before taking it offline. We started the snapmirror, and the volume filled up to 103%. I checked, and the snap reserve had been reset to 20%, thus reducing the free space on the target volume, and preventing the mirror from completing. I made the volume writable, and tried to reset the snap reserve to 5%, but the same thing happened. I only succeeded in completing the mirror by adding a disk to the target volume, thus allowing enough space, even with a snap reserve of 20%. This sounds like a bug - why should snap reserve be reset on the target volume? Has anyone heard of this before? Thanks, Moshe

: My guess is that an : SSL-enabled FilerView, if ever created, would be packaged : with ssh in the SecureAdmin license. SSL-enabled FilerView is part of ONTAP 6.0. Once you've installed SecureAdmin 2.1, the initial na_admin page includes a link to Secure FilerView. - Brian
