DFM is a very nice multi-filer management tool and is tightly integrated with the filers. It has lots of useful reports, especially for multi-filer sites that are trying to find a chunk of free space or figure out how much they can expand certain filers. DFM will not do two of the things Jay asked for though - it will not tell you the type of data using the space, nor will it tell you which users are putting it there. It is more designed to be a multi-filer management tool than a storage management tool. Highground will (somewhat) do what Jay is looking for. He may also consider looking into BMC. They bill their storage management tools as being "Application specific" - that is they have a capability of mapping certain applications (like Oracle) to data usage. Like Highground, BMC has an agent-based architecture; however, I'm not sure of Highground's support for "Tier 1 storage". MSCS Exchange cluster and NetApp CFO cluster

Anybody out there running Exchange 5.5 on NT 4.0 SP6a with two-node, Active/Passive MSCS cluster and the information store on a NetApp CFO cluster (forgive my multiple instances of redundancy)? According to the documentation for SnapManager 1.1 this is now a supported configuration. Insight/comments/lessons learned greatly appreciated. A more practical suggestion: Industrial strength electric drill. No joke. This leaves something like 90% of the data still accessible. If you're at this level of security I'd recommend chipping the drives into small pieces or immersing them in molten metal in a forge or mashing them beyond recognition with a 20 lb sledge. That last technique is even kinda fun. Have a party. In normal use, it is impossible to view the previous contents of a file once it and all snapshots containing it are deleted. WAFL zeroes every block before allocating it to a file, so you can't create a file and write to the millionth byte in the expectation of seeing a meg of info from deleted files the way you can on many other filesystems. The reason I suggested Highground is because it has the ability to monitor "soft" quotas. It wont enforce quotas on the filer, but it will e-mail users when they are close to reaching their quota. As far as I know, the Data Fabric Manager doesnt have this functionality. CIFS Gigabit Performance?

Would anyone mind sharing the best throughput figures they've been able to sustain, for both writing and reading, to a filer via CIFS over fiber GigE? I'm trying to get a feel for what I should be able to attain. Also, any tuning suggestions would be most helpful. Thanks,
