NBU 3.4 report tape drive status down occasionally caused backup to fail

Hi everyone, Does any one ever encounter this before? We have 2 tape drives connected to 2 Network Appliance Filer. It goes down randomly every day and the following error msg is recorded in the application event log. We are running Veritas Netbackup Data Centre Ver 3.4.1 on Windows 2000 ? But when we "up" the drive in device monitor, the backup completes successfully. Does anyone know where to set on the filer or NBU to prevent the drive to go down?

CIFS access slow

Hi, I have sen over the last few days a marked decrease in CIFS performance from our 760. We have a shell for the PC (TCSH) and if I perform an ls -l on a top level share mapped to a network drive on the PC I get a 30-40 second delay before the list is returned. I saw several lsa lookup errors last week, but at the moment these are all clear - but still the performance is poor. We use UNIX style qtrees, and have both WINS and NIS services. Any ideas? migrating filers between windows 2000 domains

Hi, Has anyone sucessfully migrated filers from Windows 2000 Mixed mode domain eg. abc.com to a newly created Windows 2000 Native Mode domain eg. "gbc.com". We have migrated all the users from abc.com to the new domain gbc.com. Migrating computers is also underway sucessfully using aelita DMW tools. Now as far as we tried on a filer version 6.1.1 ,migrating filers between windows 2000 domains deletes all the shares and corrupts all the permissions. Wondering what will happen to ACLS of Terabytes of data. SIDHist of all the users are being maintained while they were migrated.. Only these toasters are left.. Netapp documentation also doesnt help much except for telling about about support for Windows 2000 Active Directory native mode in regarsd to migrating between domains. Oracle 9i RAC + Red Hat + Netapp

We are currently running Oracle on Sun on Netapp 760s, and considering moving to RAC on Red Hat Linux. Network Appliance has a Tech Report on configuring RAC on Netapps, located at: http://www.netapp.com/tech_library/3189.html Is anyone currently doing this? Any gotchas not documented in this document? Do you _have_ to be running Netapp 880s at Ontap 6.1.3R2, or is that simply the latest and greatest? Veritas Netbackup 4.5 - browsing filer resources over NDMP

Last two days we spent on configuration of Veritas Netbackup 4.5 for NDMP backups of NetApp filer. It is not simple task because documentation on this topis is very obscure. However we managed to work NDMP backups and restores in two different scenarios. But there is one feature unclear for me: Defining backup policies one should type source of backup (AFAIK only volumes and qtrees are allowed). There is browse button that should enable browsing of filer resources but it does not seem to work. Sniffer shows that NB is trying to locate resources over Veritas proprietary TCP ports not NDMP. Is there any way to make it using NDMP or the only way is to type the full path manually?
