URGENT ASSISTANCE

JOSEPH WILLIAMS DIRECTOR PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION (MEMR) Dear Sir, I am an Engineer with the South African Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and I am also a member of the Republic of South Africa Contract Award and Monitoring Commitee in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. This could be an RSH issue. In 5.X FilerView used RSH to talk to the filer. Try checking the value of rsh.enable and whether you can rsh to the filer (modulo other security settings). connection refused error when trying to access filerview

I know this used to work a while back but it no longer does. I don't use it but another admin here would like to be able to use it to make changes. It works fine on the three other netapps we have here. This one is running an older version of OS though, it's at NetApp Release 5.3.5R2. Under options httpd.admin.enable is set to on. I can get in and bring up the java window, i don't get the error message until I try to access something that requres the root password. When I provide it I get the following error: Error communicating with host 10.209.68.211 msg=Connection refused nothing shows up in the message log for errors. Is there a way to turn on logging for this to try and get more info about what's happening? I've also tried disabling it and enabling it and that doesn't seem to fix the problem. I know the password is correct because I can telnet into the console just fine. Could it be looking for a different password other than the root password? I also ran the password command and changed the root users password and then tried to access filerview with the new password and that didn't work either. Any help would be really appreciated Thanks Dan

Yes. Do you really need more inodes than 1 per 4 K? That would mean a LOT of really small files. 4 K is the minimum size of any file in WAFL (the write anywhere file layout) that Data OnTap uses. RE: Upgrading to 6.4.1 a good risk?

We had a nightmare with NDMP when 6.4.1 was installed on our FAS960 cluster. Netbackup 4.5 NDMP refused to work. NetApp rolled back the upgrade to 6.3.1 and everything worked great. From what I can tell, the D* versions have addressed this Netbackup/NDMP issue. To upgrade or not upgrade? My advice is; Don't do it unless 6.4.1D* gives you functionality that is critical to your production operation. If 6.4.1D* is critical, my advice is to upgrade and test the backups. But make sure you have a clear understanding of the downgrade procedure if you need to do it. Mirroring using raidsize=2

Our company (in its wisdom) has decided that all "critcal" data must be on mirrored filesystems, not on raid. On filers, if you set the raidsize to 2, you effectively get a mirrored volume. Does anyone do this? Does it cause a performance problem?
