Gig fibre cables

The 940FC that has just arrived has dual port gigabit fibre NICs. (Part number X1035B-C) Just looking through the installation workbook (for the NetApp not the gig card) it says that either 50 or 62 micron fibre cables can be used. I assume that the only difference between these two cable types is their quality and that either will work with the X1035B-C. Is this correct? TIA, - Michael

If your primary objective is to control disk space allocation/usage, consider setting "tree" quotas on the top level Qtree and not be concerned with a user or group who accesses the data within the qtree. In particular, a group quota does not limit the total disk space consumed by all the users who are members of the group. Each file and directory on a filer has a group attribute. When using Unix style permissions, a file's group is a group id number (GID), which corresponds to the third field in a Unix /etc/group file. You can use the unix command 'ls -l filename' to see what group a file has. A group quota simply limits the total size of all files that have that particular group attribute. It has nothing to do with the owner of the files. I don't think that group quotas are particularly useful because users are often members of multiple groups and therefore they can create files with different group attributes. If user X is a member of group A and group B, then X can create a file and set its group to A and that file counts against the group quota for A. But X could create another file and set its group to B and that file counts against the group quota for B. Of course both files count against the user quota for X. I'm trying to set up group quotas on a qtree. I'm trying to use unix groups that are stored on an ldap server to control who is in each group. Has anyone done this before? Hi all, Do I need to apply quotas per share on Filer. It is posible with third part product such as StorageCentral from Veritas. Has anyone probed it? Thanks

We currently have a DLT tape library connected to our F760 using the onboard HVD. We're going to change this out with a newer LTO2 library. The newer library uses LVD, so we have an HVD/LVD converter box. We also only use dump scripts to do our backups. It sounds like this should be as easy as - power off F760 - disconnect DLT library - connect LTO2 library with HVD/LVD converter - power on F760 - modify scripts in case any SCSI IDs have change Are there things we're overlooking. What I need to do, is to apply different user quotas to the same CIFS user accessing to differents directories (shares) inside the same qtree. You can apply tree quotas to a Qtree, then share out the Qtree as a CIFS share. NFS permissions

The File Access Management Guide says that I can use -anon=root on an exported path and users on any client will be able to access it. When I entered that parameter, I get an error that says, "UID in anon option is not a number". I need to be able to allow any user from any of 6 Unix machines the ability to access this NFS share. Converting Netcache to Filer

Hi everybody, Anyone have an idea to converting a Netcache to a Filer. I have only found this (see bellow), but if anyone have more detail about it... Thanks in advance. Laurent from an ok prompt ok unsetenv netcache? to turn it off, thereby making it a filer rather than a netcache, or ok setenv netcache? to turn it back into a netcache from a filer
