Completely open CIFS share in 8.3.2

Greetings, I need to allow some MSDOS 6.2/Windows 3.1 systems to map a dedicated drive share. Is there a way to set up a CIFS only share that will not require authentication? I've set up permissions to give "everyone" full control, but it still asks for a username or password when they try to connect. I have been able to do this with a share on a W7 system, but I'd rather it go to a more robust destination. Couple of random questions

Hi all just wondered if anyone can just answer a couple of questions for me. 1 - We are migrating from a number of 7-mode filers to c-mode clusters and the clusters have AFF and FAS HA pairs, management do not want to move someone who is on HDD now onto flash to then move them back to HDD when the disk shelfs are all sorted out. I have suggested using QOS limits while the volumes are on the flash storage but the storage architect has said that it won't work and the customer will see a performance improvement even with QOS on but can't really explain the why behind what he is saying. This has put the whole migration on hold is there any reason a 1000IOPS limit on flash would give better performance that a 1000IOPS limit on HDD the only thing I can see happen is if the requests go over 1000 they will be served up at the start of the second and then there would be a pause until the next second. 2 - Has anyone had been using compaction on HDD aggregates I am thinking we can enable this on our vault volumes but have no idea what the performance hit on the controller would be currently our vault is hanging off of a FAS2554 but this will probably be getting swapped out for a FAS8020 during the working in question 1 so would like to think about saving as much space as is possible. FreeBSD on NetApp hardware

Hi, We have some abandoned NetApp 6290 hardware, that was replaced by FAS8080, and I want to run FreeBSD on it. The original software, OnTap, is also based on FreeBSD. Somebody once told me that it is simple, something like "just change the kernel loader address". Does anyone have more information about this? It would be so cool to run ZFS and bhyve on them (just for fun, not for production). Meanwhile, I am going to try netboot FreeBSD/amd64 and see how far I get. Hello, We have been receiving this alert below intermittently and from what i believe this only reared its head after an upgrade to 9.1, we are operating on a version (9.1P2) where this supposed bug is fixed and it causes no issues that I am aware. Does anyone had any dealings with this alert? or know how to find out more about the potential cause? We are not aware of any network misconfigurations in the environment, but when I run a 'network connections active show' I see his port being used by our ESXi hosts for NFS. This also is reported by the other node in the cluster too and also at a remote site by another cluster. The alerts are random and appear maybe once a day. Maybe nothing to worry about but any information or help much appreciated...... Migrate root volume to partitioned disks after wipeconfig

Hey there, I've got a FAS2554 here which I've pushed through wipeconfig recently and interestingly, both controllers show different layouts after this process. So what I'd like to do now is to migrate the root aggregate on node2 to an aggregate with partitioned disks too, of course, but I cannot find any information on how to do that. I've tried to manually create an aggregate on node 2 and have manually assigned the root partitions to it, but it's always telling me that the disks are not owned by node 2 or the new migrate-root command just does not seem to support partitioned disks. Trying to avoid another wipeconfig here, since that will take ages again for zeroing all the disks... Thanks Phillip! I did see this last week. It seems with the combining of OCUM and OCPM into one server the upgrade process might be a bit time consuming so I have it on the list to do once I read up on the process. Also, don't want to lose the feed from OCPM to NetApp Harvest and haven't verified that ability still exists in the new version. But yes, after reading the release notes I am anxious to see what this new combined server/interface looks like and test the functionality it provides. Q: Is the automation store going to live on? If so, will NetApp start providing new reports for OCUM/PM? The user community doesn't appear to be that lively. Hi, I was recently tasked with presenting latency numbers for aggrs and vols on a regular basis. These would be numbers averaged over 30 days. We're on cDOT 9.1P2 and OCUM is, to say the least, anemic when it comes to reporting on such things. Performance manager will provide the numbers but doesn't have the capabilities to save them to a spreadsheet, or whatever. What are you fellow NetApp admins using for metrics reporting these days?

To clarify, yes, I can pull Graphite graphs into, say, SharePoint and am considering this route for some things. In fact, recent help I received from the Harvest author allowed me to create a graphical representation of inode usage in some volumes we have that are heavy inode eaters.
