Thanks to a lot of people who responded: Adam, Skottie, Blake. In regards to 4 FC on board FC cards if I have a 3050 cluter system: don't I use all 4 for disk shelves connectivity: 2 locally, 2 partner? does it not leave me without tape/san ports? 3050 on board cards, please explain

Can someone please explain to me the break down of on board cards in 3050 according to the specs there are 4 gigE on board ports: are they copper or fiber? can all of them be used for data? What about FC ports? The 2 bellow, are they used for disk shelf connectivity or they can be used for san/tape connections? *Onboard 2Gb Fibre Channel Ports* (configurable as Storage-attached initiator or Host-attached target) 4

The 4 on-board GigEs are Copper. If you need Fibre, expansion cards are available. The 4 2-Gb FC ports are LC and are programmable to be initiators or targets. As initiators, they can be used for disk shelves or tape SAN. As targets, the can be used for disk SAN. Marge, Take a look at Knowledge Base article KB4998 on the NOW site. It has all the information you need to decide when and how to defragment volumes and LUNS. In a nutshell, use Windows utilities to defragment a NTFS LUN and use reallocate (ONTAP 7) or wafl scan reallocate (ONTAP 6.x and earlier) for volumes and files. When you delete the file, the blocks are eventually freed provided that there are no snapshots holding onto these blocks. If the data was already contiguous, then you should have 10GB of contiguous free space. If the files were not, then... you get the picture. WAFL does a very good job of keeping fragmentation out of the picture - however, if the filesystem fills up, this causes problems. Since WAFL FS is intellegent minimizing the defrag issues, what happens on deletion of the files on my volume? Hi, does anybody know if there is a way to use snaprestore to recover a qtree out of a snapshot without doing so much manual work?? We are currently in a need for this.
