Attack of the Zombies

Is anyone familiar with messages such as these, and how to diagnose what volume(s) on what aggregate is triggering it? 4/27/2018 11:24:31 node1 NOTICE wafl.zombie.susp.msg.threshold: WAFL(R) is experiencing zombie throttling possibly due to requests for large number of file deletions. This can be mitigated by a combination of a) reducing the load on the system, b) issuing the file deletion requests in smaller batches and c) increasing the limits to allow more zombies to be queued on the system (Please contact technical support). I'm troubleshooting a latency/performance issue and this caught my eye in the event logs. Web searches aren't really coming up with anything useful and there is mention of it in the NetApp KB but no real background information or troubleshooting steps. Also, the (R)egistered Trademark after WAFL in the notice is weird to have in a technical event log. Windows Host Utilities for Server 2016

Hey there, does anyone know when we can expect working Windows host utilities for Server 2016? The current release (7.1) refuses to install due to a broken dependency check on hotfix 2796995. Also DSM MPIO 4.1P1 for windows refuses to install because of a broken dependency check for Powershell 2.0. NDMP dump dates

I've been trying to find how this is done for CDOT, and keep on running into 7-Mode references. I'm using NDMP to take backups of volumes. How can I tell what the NDMP reference 'dump date' is? Is it written to a file somewhere? (e.g. like /etc/dumpdates) Thanks and regards, Ed.

SIS Failure

Started receiving the below alert for one particular DP volume... Message: sis.op.aborted: SIS operation for /vol/sv_data01@vserver:7d1c6sdfsdfa01c55 has aborted: Metafile does not exist The volume is only 1% full so I don't believe it is disk space related. Any ideas ?

cdot snapmirror: how to delete stalled relationship?

Hi, I decommissioned a CDOT cluster and only then discovered it was in a SM relationship (in broken-off state), as a source. If I now try to delete the relationship, it fails with: Warning: Unable to list entries in cluster "decommed-cluster". Failed to contact peer cluster "decommed-cluster" at addresses: 1.1.1.1, 2.2.2.. RPC: Remote system error [from mgwd on node "mynode" (VSID: -1) to mgwd at 3.3.3.3, 4.4.4.4] Error: command failed: Volume "my_volume" not found. (Failed to contact peer cluster "decommed-cluster" at addresses: 1.1.1.1, 2.2.2.2. RPC: Remote system error [from mgwd on node "my-node" (VSID: -1) to mgwd at 3.3.3.3, 4.4.4.4]) Any ideas maybe of how to unscrew it? "-force" flag does not help. Cheers, Vladimir

ndmp failure

I have SVM scope NDMP backup on 2 nodes in cluster and it has been working for a whileWe added 2 more nodes in the cluster and the filesystem from these 2 nodes (same SVM) are failing backupsVertias NDMP error 99 (client can connect and browse the filesystem to select it for backup)There is gotta to be something related to new nodes only, but I cannot put my finger on it

Epsilon and root move from an aggr to another

Hi everybody, past friday during an operation given as NDO we've had a service interruption on NAS component. We had to move the root aggregate from some old disks to new ones and we've literally followed the procedure reported here (our cDOT is 8.3.2P9 on a 4 nodes cluster) https://kb.netapp.com/app/answers/answer_view/a_id/1030179 In a very simple way it says: A. Check for epsilon on the node you've to migrate and move it to another node A.1 there's a warining about SAN protocols interruptions but we DID NOT have SAN protocols running, only NFS/CIFS. B. Lif migration after the aggregate relocation Well, NFS was restarted and all servers and apps belonging to it went down! I let you imagine customer reaction... Also console after this command: system node modify -node node01 -eligibility false give us a warning about SAN disruption. As I wrote it did not matter us. Only after that we've found on manual this, but as usual manuals are always less updated than knowledgebase so it could be the last place where to find fresh informations! https://library.netapp.com/ecmdocs/ECMP1367947/html/GUID-AB52F821-3A25-4E02… Moving epsilon for certain manually initiated takeovers Note: Although cluster formation voting can be modified by using the cluster modify -eligibility false command, you should avoid this except for situations such as restoring the node configuration or prolonged node maintenance. If you set a node to be ineligible, it stops serving SAN data until the node is reset to eligible and rebooted. NAS data access to the node might also be affected when the node is ineligible. And, what does it mean "might be". I translate that as a "nobody knows, try..." Now the most important question (we must migrate other three nodes!) is this: Assuming that we've well understood that 1. migrate lif and only 2. epsilon false, it there an official answer/doc with updated information that ensure that is this the right procedure to avoid also NAS protocols interruption? AD Group enumeration problem?

Hello everyone I'm having a problem where users with more than 16 group memberships are unable to perform operations on files or directories that live on NFS volumes and are owned by groups that they are members of. This seems to be the classic and documented RPC spec limit as blogged about at http://www.xkyle.com/solving-the-nfs-16-group-limit-problem/ and discussed in various forum posts when doing web searches for the old 7-mode option "nfs.authsys.extended_groups_ns.enable" and "nfs.max_num_aux_groups". I've found the cDOT options "auth-sys-extended-groups" and "extended-groups-limit" within the "vserver nfs" tree, and have adjusted them to "enabled" and "64" (my test user is a member of 29 groups). However, the problem I am observing still remains. I tried unmounting and remounting my test volume on my test host (RHEL7.3 x86_64) with no observable change in behavior. My SVMs are talking LDAP to Active Directory in a Windows 2008R2 forest level. My SVM LDAP client schema is a copy of AD-IDMU with a single change, uid-attribute is set to sAMAccountName. If I go into diag mode and issue "getxxbyyy getgrlist -vserver MySvm -username MyTestUser -node MyNode", I get back this: pw_name: MyTestUser Groups: 1154000513 While still in diag mode I issue "secd authentication show-creds -node MyNode -vserver MySvm -unix-user-name MyTestUser" and get back: UNIX UID: MyTestUser <> Windows User: MyDomain\MyTestUser (Windows Domain User) GID: Domain Users Supplementary GIDs: Domain Users Windows Membership: *(A list of 29 other groups as defined in Active Directory)* BUILTIN\Users (Windows Alias) User is also a member of Everyone, Authenticated Users, and Network Users So it looks like getxxbyyy is either only getting back the users' primary group, or its not enumerating the supplementary group memberships? Based on some suggestions from Support, I tried changing the LDAP client configuration to use port 3268 (global catalog) instead of 389 (ldap) but that actually resulted in no user information being returned. I also tried setting a preferred DC within the LDAP client configuration (option "preferred-ad-servers") with no change in returned data. I tried setting a preferred DC with the ldap server port back at 389 too, no difference. Our DNs do have commas in them. Example taken from within AD: CN=Lastname\, Firstname,OU=SomeDivision,OU=SomeCompany,DC=SomeDomain,DC=SomeBigOrg,DC=com . Could this cause problems? I did see some brief mention of an old hidden 7-mode option "ldap.skip_cn_unescape.enable" but can't find a cDOT equivalent. Does anyone have experience with this problem and can provide some hints?
