fcp stats command

Hi Not sure if I should be paranoid or not. but can anyone explain to me what interrupts are when using hte fcp stats command? I having a performance problem and ESX Administration says that certain ESX servers are loosing connection to their LUNs, but the Netapp doesn't report anything and neither do the FC switches. I am bit confused, even Solaris 10 with MPIO has problme figure out what correct path to take It has 2 path on san (sw1 and sw2) and efectivly 4 path to lun (netapp1 and netapp2 are connected each into sw1 and sw2) Why would both Solaris and ESX server access netapp1 luns via netapp2 for most parts? Should I just kill fabric mash and have netap1-sw1 and netap2-sw2 to simplify things? Do host utulities for Solaris help with that at all? SnapMirror between N-series and FAS?

programs to stress/saturate nfs traffic on filer

i want to generate and measure as much load as possible on a unix host via nfs to our filer to capture the max throughput the host can generate. we have used iozone but this does not generally saturate the server or the filer. what i am looking for is something along the lines of host can sustain X MB/sec throughput and at the same time measure the filers performance/response. im sure someone has a page with tools on this somewhere

How to determine how new (yet to be installed) systems FC ports are configured?

Hello all, We have a 3050 cluster that we will be upgrading to a 3170 cluster soon. Our 3050 cluster uses the onboard fiber channel ports 0c and 0d as targets. I'm wondering if the 3170 will use these same ports as targets or if it comes preconfigured with some other set of ports as targets? I know you can specify if you want a port as a target or an initiator with the fcadmin command but would like to avoid the step in the upgrade process if their was some way for me to tell which ports it was going to use as targets ahead of time. NetApp & Portable Home Dirs (OS X)

We have been providing networked home directories to our AD Windows users off a NetApp for a number of years. Now we are looking at extending that to our OS X users and running into some issues. If we use network home dirs, OS X (10.5.x) and CIFS direct to the filer everything semms to work fine (the OS X clients and the filer are all in AD). The problem comes when we try to use portable home directories, which is where the OS X client has a local copy of the home dir and syncs to the filer. We have no problems if it is syncing to an OS X server over AFP or to a Windows server over CIFS. If we go direct to the filer over CIFS, any files deleted on the OS X client are not properly tracked such that when it syncs back to the filer the files reappear (instead of being deleted from the filer). There are also library files which fail to sync. When we remove the filer as the storage all the problems go away. We've tested against 7.2.4 and 7.3. Do fcp/iscsi nodenames change on a cluster head upgrade?

Hello All, We are in the process of planning for an upgrade of a FAS3050 cluster in single_image cfmode to a FAS3170 cluster which will also be in single_image cfmode. We have a few questions remaining: * Do the iscsi nodenames change with a head upgrade? If yes, will this require us to change the iscsi nodename to the old systems for the iscsi clients to be able to seamlessly reconnect to the SAN after the upgrade? * Does the FCP nodename change with the head upgrade? If yes, will it require us to change it back to the original systems for seamless reconnecting of clients? * Do the lun serial's change with a head upgrade and does this affect clients in any way? Netapp CPU types

Hi toasters, i am wondering if anybody has an official overview of netapps controller hardware, and espacially the CPU types. I found different sources telling me different things. e.g. i found an article on wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NetApp_Filer) saying that the FAS6040 is one die with dual-core. A poster from netapp states that it has two single-core dies. Can anybody sched some light onto this?? My biggest interesst is how the FAS6040 compares to the FAS6030.
