Marcus, WAFL "steals" 10%; this loss is inherent in the file system design. I created a volume on F880c, ONTAP 6.4.1, with CIFS as follows: 37 - 72GB disk Raid group size = 14 with 3 Raid groups No snapshot snapshot reserve = 0 But in Filerview the volume space shows 1.98TB and 'df -g' shows 2031GB. I thought the volume space should be 2.257TB (34 data disks x 66.385GB). Map to the volume from a Windows client and it shows 1.98TB. Why am I missing a lot of disk space? cheers, Marcus Bui

Data ONTAP Simulator - New Version Released

We have posted a new version of the Data ONTAP Simulator for Linux on the NOW site. You can find it at http://now.netapp.com/NOW/cgi-bin/simulator. This new version has a much improved installation process that accommodates most versions of RH Linux, including version 9. Other features included in this release are: - Full documentation installation choice - Upgrading process from previous versions of the simulator - Session logging - Easier cluster installs - Easier disk creation - Ability to create disks on different "interfaces" to help with SyncMirror simulation - Improved documentation - Downloadable .ISO CDROM image file for direct CDROM burning This is a volunteer project within NetApp and no official support for the simulator is provided. Anti-virus question

I'm wondering if anyone else is having the same minor issues I'm having with the anti-virus solution. The problem I'm encountering, is that much of the time when I get a virus alert that the netapp and Trend have prevented a virus infection, I can't find any way to tell what the source of the infection was. From Trend's perspective, all the viruses are found on the scan server, so all my alerts from Trend look like this: Warning! Virus activity has been detected. { Machine: [MTVESS8TAV02] Product: [ServerProtect for Windows NT] Virus: [PE_ELKERN.D] From: [srvprotect] To: [srvprotect] Action Result: [Clean Success] Virus Found Time [2003/09/09 10:09:05] } Mtvess8tav02 is one of my netapp virus scan servers. I've found that sometimes, in the Netapp's message log, I'll find messages identifying the source of the infection like this: Fri Aug 15 01:24:14 PDT [rpc_0:warning]: CIFS: Virus scanner 10.40.231.71 completed a scan on modified file foo for client 10.40.36.37 (BENDER) as user ntbuild but returned the following status: [0x3e8] and status message: Virus Found! Unfortunately, I don't always get messages in the Netapp's log. I had a batch of Elkern infection notices today, for example, but there's nothing in the Netapp's log to indicate the possible source of the infection. Primarily, I'm most concerned with the AV software catching infected files on my server, but secondarily it would be helpful if it gave me some clues as to who the infection source is. I know right now I have an Elkern-infected machine out there, but no clue as yet who it is. Has anyone else found solutions to this issue? However the fund which was initially refered to B.B.V.A Bank in Europe as contract payment to a foreign contractors whose names appeared on priority list for over due payment of contract sum long completed ,following the directives from the World Bank,Paris Club and the International Monetary Fund on our demand for soft loan,that we must first pay all debt owned foreign contactors,before we can be given loan has now been lodged at a Finance Company in Europe as disguise against some politicians here in the liberia with anti-Government Policies and ideologies considering the turbulent crisis that has engulfed our Country.
