Check out NOW. In the software downloads section there is a page for tools and utilities downloads where you can find one called Filer Quota Notifier (disk_usage), which has the following description: "This Perl script looks at user disk quotas and automatically sends email to users (or to the administrator) when their quotas are within some threshold of being exceeded. Use with Solaris and perhaps other versions of Unix." I'm not a filer admin, just an interested reseller, so I can't vouch for this utility personally. Perhaps one of the other folks on this list can tell you from their own experience. Officially it's recommended by NetApp but not supported by them. cifs prefdc for 6.0.1R3 ??

hi folks, is there someone, who knows a hidden option to set a preferance-list for DC connections for 6.0.1R3?? cause somtimes the filer connects to a dc over wan, and the latency isn´t that good to run oracle on the filer. in 6.1 its integrated and i think - maybe this option is also in older ontap-releases. any suggestions?? thx hannes

Dale I wrote a script, on a Unix client, that looks at each tree in the /etc/quotas file. If the tree is within 90% of the three it then sends an email the user who is responsible for the tree, our helpdesk, and senior admins. The file that I email also includes the sub directories of that tree so the user can get an idea of were he might be able to cleanup data. Or you can run showmount from a client and give the server name, such as UNIX# showmount -a filer BUT PLEASE NOTE THIS CAVEAT: There is no reliable way to tell who all your clients are at any given time. NFS is stateless. Clients can come and go and they don't always leave nicely and do a clean umount so the entries tend to stay in /etc/rmtab for much longer than they should. If you want to see who the top 5 or so clients are, you can always use the option nfs.per_client_stats and then nfsstat -l and you'll get an idea of who your busiest clients are and presumably they are still mounted. The only showmount option that I have found to be truly reliable is the -e options which shows you what is exported from a particular box. DOT 5.x -> 6.x RAID/WAFL upgrade ?'s

Okay, can someone help explain to me what happens to volumes between Data ONTAP 5.x and 6.x with respect to the upgrade steps and times. In our situation, we're vol copy'ing data from 5.3.7R3 to 6.1R1. The first annoyance is that the destination filer (6.1R1) says the following: Mon Jun 11 15:57:13 PDT [turbine: rshd_0:error]: Filesystem version mismatch for destination volume vol2_2, reverting the version and aborting transfer. A console message will be displayed when this revert is complete. The fabled console message it describes never happens. Even so, please just send me a message that I can use syslog.conf to route to whichever logging facility I please. Sending something to the console only without possibility of configuring it to go somewhere else makes me very sad since I'm not going to be watching the console for hours at a time. Does anyone know how long the revert process takes? Our next problem is that now that we've vol-copied, the destination volume wants to upgrade itself. Again, does anyone know what the steps are and how long they take to upgrade? I found the following information in "vol status -c": turbine*> vol status -c Volume Checksum style Checksum status vol0_1 zoned Checksums active root zoned Checksums active vol0_2 zoned Checksums active vol2_2 zoned Checksums initializing: RAID upgrade phase 1 (of 2) in progress vol2_1 zoned Checksums initializing: WAFL upgrade in progress (BTW, wouldn't alphanumeric sorting be nice in output like this?) So is it the case that we have 2 RAID upgrade phases and then a WAFL upgrade? Are there more or less steps and what order do they come in? How long does each one take? Assuming the time is a question of the amount of data and beef in the server, we're talking about F840's working on volumes that are about 500GB big with 200-400GB of data on them.
