NTFS Formatting

I have a filer with UNIX and NT data. I want to move via ndmp to a larger filer. In preparation for the data move I read somewhere that in order for NT data to maintain security permissions, the destination must be NTFS formatted. Is this true, and how do you perform this if the host is a Unix machine but other NT servers are available. Also how would UNIX data fit on an NTFS format. Any help is greatly appreciated. It is correct that you are required to use NTFS or MIXED security style if you want to manage your data using NTFS style ACLs. You are not required to use the MIXED security style in order to work with both NT and UNIX data. You can access your data from either Windows or UNIX clients using any security style. FS: F330

Well, after a fruitless search for affordable (at least on my current budget) drives/cannisters for my F330, I've decided to give up and just get rid of it to someone that can use it for spares if nothing else. So: FS: One F330 According to people @ NetApp, this unit was probably a pre-release/ prototype/engineering model. Has a putty/beige front panel instead of a dark blue one, and the cover for the floppy drive area was either never finished or painted silver sometime before I got it. Has 2meg NVRAM (4 if I can find those other two NVRAM SIMMs), one DEC BA350 SESCSI drive shelf (no power supply or drives). No RAM on the motherboard, but we all know where to get that... One of our admins sent this out a couple of days ago... Might be helpful. Hi All, This weekend, I found myself changing the UID of all files which belonged to a particular user in ~40 directories. Since the majority of these directories contained snapshot directories, this task was impossible to complete within the time frame of the weekend without "pruning" the snapshot directory out of the find statement that I used. Since I expect that we will be seeing more and more need to perform this type of task with the merge, I thought that I would share the syntax that I used to accomplish this. Lets assume that I am changing the UID of all files and directories, within the current directory, from 444 to 555 and that I do not want my find command to run through the .snapshot directory. find . -name .snapshot -prune -o -user 444 -exec chown -h 555 {} \;

Greetings toasters, For network product planning purposes, I am taking a very brief & un-scientific poll on your use of NFS. Your participation is entirely optional but greatly appreciated. All replies will be kept confidential. Do you use: NFSv2, NFSv3 or both? If both, what % mix? TCP, UDP or both? If both, what % mix? CIFS, HTTP, FTP, etc. in addition to NFS? If so, what % mix? A layer 2 protocol *other* than Ethernet? If so, which one? Optional Bonus Round - What is (are) your: State, or country if outside the USA? Top three applications for filers? (one or two is OK as well) Application server platform(s) of choice? Ethernet speed (10,100 or gigabit)? NDMP is proven and has no problems. It is fast and reliable. If you have a Drive dedicated you can Direct attach the drive which is good and fast and has less overhead. I have a Adic Scalar 100 with AIT II Tape drives connected to Netapp and it works well for me.
