" Is it possible for the disk shelf to completely fail? " This is EXTREMELY far fetced...... but even if it somehow did, yoiu're data is still valid. In a large TB area, using multiple shelves, select a drive from each shelf as part of the RAID group... basically, your RAID groups are 'vertical'... and this eliminates single points of failure.. --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? Hi Toasters: Is it possible to rescan the SCSI bus on an F760 without rolling the filer? We just direct-attached some DLT7000 drives and don't want to suffer an outage to make them work. Dead Disk Shelf for One of The Clustered Filer

Hi, Is it possible for the disk shelf to completely fail? By this I don't mean the power supply or fans because those are redundant and replacable. I thinking more of a board/ic failure or maybe shelf firmware bug that can completely knock out a disk shelf. If there is a remote possibility of this happening, then I figure the partner would not be able to take over the failed filer through channel B as well under a cluster environment. Am I being too paranoid? I'm looking for something like the Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) for the Disk Shelf if available, be it FC9 or DS14. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Hi! Has anyone ever seen a mapped drive, off a nteapps completly vanishing from a PC? We use win2k and map a drive to U:. However, on some machines the users report that this drive just disapears. If they re-run the logon script it reappears, and other CIFS shares stay in place on the machine..any ideas? CIFS at last

Hi, we finally bought our CIFS license. :) FILER2> version NetApp Release 6.0.1R2: Fri Feb 9 01:12:44 PST 2001 We _don't_ intend to use a Domain Controller (do we have to?). To the moment, and after some reading I face following problems: - the indicated copy+paste of a crypted password from an unix server to the /vol/vol0/etc/passwd fails, I keep getting an NT_STATUS_WRONG_PASSWORD. Interesting point. IF DFM actually can do the things I can not (disk trending, failure prediction, etc) the tool may be worth something after all, especially if it has a Solaris version avalible. (I don't run any Win boxes). Perhaps I'll look into this further. Any tool I write probly would not go the extent to do things like trending, focusing almost solely on failure detection. As for failure prediction, I could only do a very very basic scetch, and it'd be highly in-accurate probly doing the famous "You have accumulated X number of errors on Disk x.x in the last X hours. Failure is likely" trick. I'll dig around netapp.com and NOW to learn what I can about DFM, maybe I can find manuals. Thanx Brian.
