Is anyone out there using iSCSI to connect AIX to a NetApp filer? Does anyone know of anybody doing this? Is it possible?

Only doing scheduled scans would leave you with a significant risk of infection with the rate that viruses spread today. Plus, on a large filer, a complete file-by-file scan might take hours if not days...that's a long window of opportunity for viruses to infect files and other clients to pick them up. And you're right, the viruses don't know how to infect the filer per se. The reason you want the virus scanning is to prevent other infected machines from infecting files on the filer. In other words, virus scans your network, find the file share, and infects every doc and exe file it finds on the filer, possibly thousands of infected files or more in a very short time. Now, your filer is full of infected files. Some other client, with no a/v or an insufficiently-updated a/v definition reads those files and gets infected itself, spreading the infection further. Before integrated a/v was available for the filers, we did the best we could with daily virus scans, which took several hours. We are using Trend AV for our FAS 250 and R200. IS there a way to tell Vscan to do scheduled scans instead of scanning every file that is currently being accessed? Also is it really necessary to have a AV scanner on the Filler? Check the Windows Domain Controllers listed as having connection with the Filer. I think the command is > cifs domaininfo I seen this msg when one of the DC's link with the Filer is broken. Hi Aaron, we also have SNMP Problems since we are using Ontap 6.5.1x. Problem is, that qtrees were not listed in our perl-coded filermonitor. Some qtrees on some of our filer were not listed over snmp-queries. - but Ontap command "quota report" works for all qtrees. Looks like its not a DFM Problem, but an(other) Ontap Problem. Please can you tell, if you know something new on that problem Another hint: DFM 3.0 and Ontap65-versions smaller than 6.5.1R1P8 lead to timeouts, because of an SNMP Bug in Ontap. We went through extensive DFM problems and had a long case running with Netapp after an upgrade of ONTAP from 6.4.2P6 to 6.5.1R1. Major SNMP problems with a large percentage of our qtrees not updating graphs, not sending alerts, sending them late etc. On advice from NetApp, we upgraded to DFM 3.0. this didn't fix anything. Oracle on Filers

I may be asking the obvious here but who dedicates their Oracle->Filer traffic to just *one* Filer? IE: That Filer *ONLY* handles Oracle->NFS->Filer traffic. Our CIFS traffic has grown significantly since we bought our FAS940 and I'm now dubious about mixing CIFS/Desktop services with Enterprise critical Oracle services. Currently we have a few small DB's (read-only) on the Filer but are moving to step things up over the next year with Regards to Oracle. (we are looking at RAC). So: Would ALAWYS or SOMETIMES or NEVER mix Oracle and Desktop Filer services on one filer? :-) -Bob B.

Bob, It really depends on how much Oracle and CIFS traffic you have. That being said, the FAS940 is a very capable filer. On one of the FAS940C cluster we are serving Oracle on NFS for over 1200 users and also serving CIFS traffic for about that many users without any problem. The main issue for Oracle is the number of disk that you are using. Our Oracle database is sitting on 2 dedicated volumes of 13 drives each and we might be adding more disks there to help with the performance. You really need to collect detail statistics to help decide things like that. DFM 3.0 issues

Are there any know issues w/ this version of DFM? We have run DFM 2.3 (older version) on 2 Windows 2000 systems successfully for over a year. We recently upgraded one system to DFM 3.0 and also built a new Windows 2000 server to run DFM 3.0 (fresh install) and we've been experiencing many performance issues. Specifically, the DFM alerting is severely degraded (e.g. alert notifications sent many hours late), and some of the core services are "not responding" on a regular basis (e.g. dfmMonitor, dfmWatchdog, dfmEvent). Our configurations have stayed the same and our existing DFM 2.3 system is functioning properly. Any advice? Any known issues w/ DFM 3.0? Paul M.
