The only virus software that would come into play with this is the trend for
filers on the R200 because all the data that we backup is on the R200, I'm
wondering if its because of the AV on the netapp that is slowing this down?
Its either that or not having a unix/liniux agent installed on the R200
Thanks

Make sure your NIC is set to full duplex as well as any switches, bridges,
etc.
Check on any virus software and make sure it is not running during backups.

Hi
We are noting it takes quite a long time to backup my R200 (version NetApp
Release 6.5) our backup exec server keeps complaining about an agent not
being installed. I have found this article from Veritas
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/240654.htm
<http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/240654.htm> and was wondering if
installing this unix agent would help speed up my backup jobs? Or if anyone
has any ideas for me on how to speed these jobs up that would be great

I'm getting messages in the syslog on my R200 that say
"[vscan.server.completionRequestLost:warning]
<javascript:popEMS('vscan.server.completionRequestLost');> : CIFS: Vscan
server 10.20.0.58 completed a scan request for
ONTAP_ADMIN$\vol\vol1\HA\cart\data\accnt\data\PSteinhart\vallecfundg.wpd but
the original request was not found.
And
oplock break timed out to station ISGDRLV1 for file \\ISGIRVNETAPP02
<file:///\\ISGIRVNETAPP02>
I'm using Trend AV for the filer does this message mean that may be a
problem with the AV on either the management server or Vscan on the filer?
Thanks for any help
Much appreciated

Hi all
I'm trying to setup and use auto support on my R200. When I check in the
syslogs on the filler I get a "[asup.post.badUrl:warning]

try and configure this. What am I missing here?

Only doing scheduled scans would leave you with a significant risk of
infection with the rate that viruses spread today. Plus, on a large filer,
a complete file-by-file scan might take hours if not days...that's a long
window of opportunity for viruses to infect files and other clients to pick
them up.
And you're right, the viruses don't know how to infect the filer per se.
The reason you want the virus scanning is to prevent other infected machines
from infecting files on the filer.
In other words, virus scans your network, find the file share, and infects
every doc and exe file it finds on the filer, possibly thousands of infected
files or more in a very short time.
Now, your filer is full of infected files. Some other client, with no a/v
or an insufficiently-updated a/v definition reads those files and gets
infected itself, spreading the infection further.
Before integrated a/v was available for the filers, we did the best we could
with daily virus scans, which took several hours. Even with that, the day I
made the integrated a/v active, it immediately started catching and cleaning
hundreds of infected files.

to do scheduled scans instead of scanning every file that is currently being
accessed? Also is it really necessary to have a AV scanner on the Filler?
Because I would think most viruses wouldn't know what to do with the OS of
the filler

I seen this msg when one of the DC's link with the Filer is broken. Try
stop/restart the virus services.
