Snapvault and lrep_reader/writer

Hi all, Does anyone else here do SnapVault across the WAN across a long wide link (dual T3, 90+ msec delay) and get decent performance, esp for the initial copy of the volume(s) and/or qtree(s)? We've gone the route where I did an lrep_reader dump of a 3.8tb qtree (don't ask...) to local disks. Then I used a nice tool called 'bbcp' to push it all across the WAN so that I could actually *use* all my bandwidth. Regular SnapVault sucks for performance, it just can't push more than 15mb/s which stinks when you have dual T-3 (90mb/s) bandwidth. Using bbcp I can fill that pipe for days on end. So then once it's all across the WAN, I then used lrep_writer to dump the data to it's destination qtree. All fine and good, but then I have to start a regular snapvault to now catchup with all the data written during the 8+ days the first stage took. Sigh... Anyone know if I can lrep_reader/lrep_writer the next snapvault snapshot across as well, so I can push the data faster? Because each time the link goes down between the sites, I have to start all over again with the catchup snapvault transfer and it's killing me. Also, I'd love to be able to *know* how much data is left to copy from the source to the destination, but "snapvault status -l ...." doesn't give that sort of information. Or do I need to start using the 'snap delta' command and my own math to figure out things? V-series metrocluster (v3020c) on top of a 2-site EMC Clariion CX3-40 or HDS USP-VM?

Hi, We are in the process of selecting a v-series NetApp cluster, which will act as an iSCSI/NFS/CIFS NAS gateway with an EMC Clariion CX3-40 or HDS USP-VM providing the backend storage. It's residing in 2 datacenters with transparent vlan's between the two locations. The v-series will be configured as metrocluster, and will use SyncMirror on top of some dumb lun's as offered on each location by the respective CX3-40 or USP-VM of that location. There is some FUD surrounding me that this is a less than ideal situation (both stability and performance). Does anyone in the field have any experience with such a clustered HA setup? We are currently using VirtualIron which supports LiveMigrate. This requires that the LUN not change, it does not copy the storage data. Thanks however, take care. Hi, just for understanding...do you have problems with accessing the vol0 from the windows host?? If yes, then first check if you use domain-auth or local one. Reformat a netapp disk to make it a spare again?

We added two shelves of disks to a FAS960 pair and hit the raw capacity limit, so we had to pull some disks to get back under the limit. (The configuration guide is somewhat vague about the max capacity and it turned out to be less than we expected.) It has been suggested that we use some of these disks temporarily in a non-netapp system, but we will eventually want to turn them back into netapp spares. Personally I'm not keen on this idea. I am afraid that using them in a non-netapp system will scribble over labels and other data peculiar to netapp disks, making them unrecognizable as spares. Is this true? And if so, is there any way to reformat/relabel a disk to make it a netapp spare again? These are 750G SATA disks, by the way. Fabric MC and Brocade free ports usage

Hi All In a fabric MC enviroment a pair of Brocade 16 ports have been used for each site. Once filled with the needed connections to head and selve (Pool0 and Pool1) there are a lot of SFP empty with no connection. I know that other connection are not supported but I've already tried to attach a dual target HBA installed in each head and some HBA coming from hosts (Windows or Linux) and without zoning (you don't need it for MC) the Brocade I can expose all my FC LUNs created on NetApp and only to the right host using igroups with the 'authorized' WWWN. NetApp of course is in single_image cf mode. What do you think about this "unsupported" configuration? Many thanks
