How to identify a hot disk

So I am getting the following when running sysstat -u. As far as I know nothing should be hitting the array hard enough to drive disk utilization to 100%, much less hold it there. What can I do to further determine what's causing this? Have you played with Juniper or Riverbed WAN expander/accelerator devices? Have used them successfully with SM and high latency connections. Budget allowing ... But may be less PIA than manual scripting plus additional benefits they offer. Possible to deny all permission changes inside a CIFS share?

I was wondering if in any way it would be possible to prevent all NTFS permission changes inside a CIFS share or volume, including by file owners. I'm not concerned about the admins, but we want to support a strict permission structure with writable directories according to inherited permissions, but not allow end users to subvert the permission scheme by changing permissions on files they own. Wondering if there is any way to do this, or even if there are plausible or solid reasons why it would not be possible at all. I know you can remove the 'Change Permissions' NTFS property, but file owners can change their own. Thanks for any input.

snmp, missing shelf overview

I'm trying to monitor ambient temperatures from all our shelves using SNMP. I've found enclTempSensorsCurrentTemp in netapp.mib and it keeps all values I need BUT I don't see a map snmp.id=>shelfid. Did anyone ever found a mapping or knows how enclTempSensorsCurrentTemp is getting filled? Anyone from netapp reading here who can ask to add those informations to your mib in future releases? Different view of the same file from win & linux

Hi, We are experiencing a strange issue on one of our r200 systems. We have a volume, which is accessed from linux and windows. There is no issue with rights etc, the problem is that there are a few files, that have been created some time ago, have different versions and a different content, just from the OS that you are looking from. I tracked this user issue on my admin host (SuSe 9.3 2.6.11.4-20a-default): (The original host is running on Solaris, both the problem occurs on every host) I mounted the volume twice, via NFS & CIFS. SMB Mount: //nstore2/pdmmig$ on /mnt1 type smbfs (0) NFS Mount: nstore2:/vol/pdmmig on /mnt type nfs (rw,addr=172.18.131.211) This is one of the files that are affected by this strange issue: ls -l /mnt1/mcad_vault/Singapore_Dev_Loc_xml/CAD_NEW_1_CAApData.xml -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 2540 Jul 19 2007 /mnt1/mcad_vault/Singapore_Dev_Loc_xml/CAD_NEW_1_CAApData.xml ls -l /mnt/mcad_vault/Singapore_Dev_Loc_xml/CAD_NEW_1_CAApData.xml -rw-rw-rw- 1 6500 6500 4136 Jul 20 2007 /mnt/mcad_vault/Singapore_Dev_Loc_xml/CAD_NEW_1_CAApData.xml A diff on both files, proves the difference that is already indicated by the file size. There is no difference between the two paths, both mounts point to the same path and to the same file, but there is a difference in the content between them. I've already tested a little bit with caching, links etc, but this doesn't seem to point in the right way. Additionally it's not possible for me, to reproduce the problem with new files. Multiprotocol - file handles problem

Hello all... I am using my filer in a multiprotocol environment, where the same qtree is being accessed through CIFS as well as NFS. Recently i ran into this problem that whenever the file in the qtree was accessed by an application, it was opened as READ-ONLY. The CIFS user were unable to change/re-write the file. I changed the security style from UNIX to NTFS but the issue was not resolved. I re-verified the entries in /etc/usermap.cfg and added few entries in the usermap.cfg like abc\*==* abc.def \ Administrator == root But the problem remains unresolved. when CIFS is terminated and re-started, the filer gives the following messages: =========================================================== Sat May 31 15:43:44 PKT [befas21: cifs.umap.cfgFile.badEntry:error]: CIFS: Invalid entry in /etc/usermap.cfg, line 29: Invalid syntax. Sat May 31 15:44:05 PKT [befas21: nbt.nbns.registrationComplete:info]: NBT: All CIFS name registrations have completed for the local server. =========================================================== So is there any issue with the /etc/usermap.cfg ??? In this situation, I typically recommend an NTFS qtree, then use usermap.cfg to map unix users to the NTFS qtree. Assuming you are using NIS, if the usernames are the same as Active Directory, the default usermap.cfg will suffice. Multiprotocol access works well once setup properly; it's one of our strengths. I would open a case with the support center to troubleshoot this further as this can be complex, but would work really well once you get through it. Snapmanager for sql duration

I'm doing a snap manager for sql migration, it's been sitting @ 74% complete for about 4 hours now. I'm seeing I/O on the luns as well as traffic on the fiber, but the disks have been @ the same capacity for quite some time and there are no new event logs/report entries. It's only about ~300m of data, but I've got pre & post verify on. Other smaller dbs have already been migrated.... Does this seem excessively long? Quota re-initialization on re-joining AD domain

Hello all... Recently we had made some changes to Windows AD, and the filer was required to terminate 'CIFS' and then re-join AD through 'CIFS SETUP'. One of the volumes that was holding CIFS shares had quotas enabled...After re-joining the domain, I had to re-initialize quotas... I was of the view that no re-initialization would be required...but it was the other way round... Is it normal???or is there some problem in the CIFS setup... ??? Any comments...???? Thanx
