Volume move.... Working?

Hello toasters, I’m attempting to move a 3TB vol to a new aggregate. The destination aggregate has 100TB available space. It’s been preparing to transfer for over 3 hours…. Is this normal? FabricPools

Hi all, Has anyone got good dirt on the strengths and weaknesses of FabricPools? We're looking into a refresh where we have tons of old stale data, and FabricPools hooked upto a DataGrid block storage might be a good way to get a decent setup. Not sure, and I'm sure there are gotchas we need to look out for. But anyone have good/bad experiences? We're looking to consolidate about 400T on two 7-mode pairs (3250s and 3220s) into one new setup. Not sure which way we should go... John

volume statistics

Back in the day, I used to be able to run: statistics show -vserver ${vserver} -object volume -raw true -counter read_ops|write_ops|other_ops|read_data|write_data and get back counters of total reads/writes/etc going back to either when the filer was last booted, or the volume was moved from one filer to another. looks like nowadays in ontap9 you are supposed to turn on statistics collection for some period of time, then stop it, and then inspect that collection run. which is great and all, but all I want is the total number of reads or writes to a volume, not for a specific period of time, but overall. are these basic counters buried somewhere still in ontap9?

Hyper-V and MetroCluster

Greetings, The short question is: Is there any way to manage Hyper-V between clusters in a MC configuration without the VMs crashing? We have seen KBs saying the Witness and persistent file handles can only be moved between cluster nodes. We have a MC configuration that was running 9.1P17 and upgraded it to 9.3P14 during a downtime. We also had to physically move one half of the MC during this downtime. We have a Hyper-V cluster running Server 2012R2, SMB 3.0, and CIFS file systems housing the VMs set as continuously available. During the downtime, most, but not all VM went down hard when switched to the other half of the MC, and also when switching back. It appears linux VMs housed on the same cluster/SVM that were moved did not object to the disruption and did not reboot. Since the VM disk space went away when cluster1 was switched to cluster2, the clients had no access to disk space, and we have no event logs. We assume they paniced and rebooted. The Hyper-V clients failed immediately as the switchover was started. Are there any types of timeout settings that can be configured for the VMs so they just pause during this and pick up again when the SVMs start up on the other half of the MC? If the problem is with CIFS, we would be open to iscsi or SAN storage if it would allow them to survive a MC switchover. Adding Flash Pool - Error

We are trying to increase our Flash Pool to an existing aggregate and getting the following error message: Data ONTAP API Failed: Cannot add capacity from storage pool "DHIP10NTAP02_SSD" to aggregate "aggr01_DHIP10NTAP01_02", because the currently allocated capacity to the aggregate does not span across all disks belonging to the storage pool. Grow the aggregate before allocating more capacity from this storage pool. (Error: 13001) The aggregate is 69.21 TB in size and has 185.93 GB of cache per a Storage Pool already allocated. Chris

Migrating from VSC on VC 6.5 to VC 6.7

I have Virtual Storage Console running on our VMWare 6.5 environment and we would like to migrate to VMWare 6.7. I have a FAS6290 with OnTap 9.1. I am unable to find a license to support Snap Manager running VSC as the new dedicated appliance. Any help is appreciated. Chris

All, I have a SVM called VS1_NFS on my FAS6290 running Ontap 9.1. My question is can I delete the volume called “VS1_NFS_root” that is created that is 1 GB in size? We are migrating to new disk and wondering if I need this volume? Chris

DS2246 & Flash Pool Configuration

I have a FAS6290 cluster and we are upgrading the DS4243 to DS2246 (600 GB SAS & 200 GB SSD). We have six shelves in a loop 5 – trays of SAS and 1 – tray of SSD. I am wondering should I create a dedicated Flash Pool for each aggr or should I add the SSDs as Cache to each aggr? Chris

Migration of VOL0

Tim, I am running a FAS6290 running OnTap 9.1. We are installing new DS2246 shelves and I need to migrate the vol0 from an aggregate on DS4243 shelves to the new 6 GB loops. Do you by chance know the process do this. I have done it on 7-Mode but not on cluster mode. Any help is appreciated. Chris

Sigh... I've just about had it upto hear in parsing the output of old 7-mode filer commands. Especially for CIFS shares or quotas where you have spaces in the username, qtree, or both. Holy crap is it hard to deal with. Anyone have perl code (sorry, I'm so retro in my scripting choices! ;-) using the Netapp SDK to grab this info in a more consistent manner? And using which SDK? I've tried with an old 5.1 version I had kicking around, but the examples suck. Just downloaded the 9.6 and 9.3 SDKs to play with as well, but haven't cracked them open quite yet. It's trivial (sorta) with cDot to just export the data in CSV format natively, but old 7-mode filers are a pain to parse reliably. I'd post my existing perl code, but it's pretty ugly since I've started to hack my way into doing parsing, and it's just not going as well as I hoped. LOL. Thanks for letting me vent. John
