ONTAP Simulator

Hello Toasters, Does NetApp provide the option to download old versions of the ONTAP Simulator? I'm looking for version 9.3 (any patch release) specifically but I am coming up empty. The oldest version of the simulator I see available is 9.5P6. I'm finding no links to older versions of the simulator anywhere on the support site. Cheers, Phil

Change Serial Number

Hello, I bought old netapp but I have no license. I asked the guy who I bought he said this controller replaced in past but it should be licenses. I checked lots of doc , if controller replaced license should be generated by netapp but ı guess they forget to the that and now controller has no support and eoa. As a result ı have controller with no license. I have the old license keys but it locked with the old controller serial number. Is there anyway to change serial number. Clone a volume & snapshots

Is there a way to make a clone of a DP volume and include its snapshots ? Attempted to use snapmirror with MirrorAllSnapshots but this only seems to include newer snapshots. Also tried vol clone create but that doesn't like the DP volume. Tested breaking the mirror so the volume becomes RW but a vol clone doesn't seem to include snapshots either. Thanks in advance. single or multiple aggregates?

Hello All, We're running a pair of FAS8020's with Flash Cache modules, SAS 600GB disks and DOT9.1P6 to serve two SVM's, one for an NFSv3 storage resource for our Xen VM farm and one for NFS/CIFS file storage for our users. We currently run one SVM on one node and one on the other to avoid any impact from mixing IO loads on the cache modules. We also have two aggregates, one for the VMs and one for the file server. We're getting tight on space and also getting tired of needing to withhold unallocated disks and hand them out as needed to each aggregate. Right now we have too much free space on one aggregate and not enough on the other. We're leaning toward using the system like an enterprise storage cluster is meant to be and migrating both to a single aggregate. On the other hand, we've been bitten before when mixing different performance loads on the same gear, admittedly that was for a larger pool of very different loads on SATA disks in a SAN behind a V-Series filer. We're not much worried about cache poisoning as long as we keep each SVM on each node. Our bigger concern is mixing loads at the actual disk IO level. Does anyone have any guidance? The total cluster is 144 600GB SAS 10K RPM disks and we'd be mixing Xen VMs and NFS/CIFS file services that tend to run heavy on "get attr" reads. And I just double-checked: 9.7p4-p5 is supported on FAS 25xx+ and FAS 80x0+ and all the newer systems. turning on thin provisioning on an existing volume?

Hi it's me again, A separate question related to our current woes. If I turn on thin provisioning on an existing volume will the unused space be merged/freed up/made available? Do I need to do anything to reclaim it? Or worst case, do I need to provision a new volume and migrate? Randy

Controller dead - troubleshooting tips

Hey there, I had one of my lab systems die on me a few days ago. Needless to say, there's no maintenance on it anymore, so if the outcome of this is that I have to throw it away, I'm fine with it although I'd like to find out what exactly is broken and I'm currently trying to get that information. Takeover happened automatically, the node is now down and also its power is off, according to the service processor. Whatever I try, I cannot power it on again - it remains offline. This is a FAS2552 and we've already tried to reseat the controller, but that doesn't change anything. The SP's "system sensors" shows an asserted "Controller_Fault" - but that's a big vague to me. How can I best determine what exactly the problem is currently? What I was thinking was to disconnect the A side of disk shelf (which is possible without any issues) Then connect up the A side of the shelfs so that they now represent two loops, so two shelfs on one loop, and the last one on its own loop. Hi guys I’m in the process of moving shelfs from one system to another, and has ran into a pickle where I would like to place one of three shelfs in a loop into its own loop. Of cause the disks are a part of an aggregate and in production… Can this be done without any issues? Just one path of the loop at a time?
