VSS providers and EMC NetWorker

EMC NetWorker as of 7.6.2 does not support hardware VSS providers for backup, but also has no facilities for selecting from multiple installed providers. Oh mighty toasters list, is anyone here using NetWorker for tape and also any of the SnapManager tools for any of the Microsoft applications, and if so, how do you do it and stay supported? I appreciate that the fellow at teaparty.net for hosting this. That being said it sends a political message that isn't intended for the NetApp community. I know its not related, but by looking at the url, external folks wouldn't know that. Would it be possible to host this on google groups instead of moving from one boutique mailing list hosting service to another? Just a thought. Brian

Backup to tape when using SME

We are using SnapManager for Exchange to take snapshot/snapmirror type backups of our Exchange databases, which are stored on iSCSI LUNs on NetApp. We use NetApp's Single Mailbox Restore product to do restores. This works well, but we would like to migrate the backup data to tape in a way which makes restores (relatively) straightforward, so that we can increase our retention period. Our tape backup/archive solution is TSM. Can anyone on this list suggest methods to achieve this? We are considering the TSM Exchange agent, but it seems to duplicate rather than leverage the functionality of SME. OnTAP version is 7.3.5. We don't have SnapVault licensed. If I didn't genuinely need this list to do my job I'd have dropped you whiners a month ago. I am one of the troubled many who have been receiving the toaster list emails for some time now but have been unable to post due to quirks of the ancient "majordomo" list previously graciously hosted at mathworks.com. I have benefited hugely from the information I've seen on this list, and when I've needed to I've had a co-worker (who could post) forward my questions to the list. In most cases I've found this list to be a better troubleshooting tool than NetApp's premium support. So I was delighted to see the list updated so that I'd be able to post, regardless of the letters following the "@" in the email address. I was grateful to see that someone had stepped up to solve the problem instead of whining about it. inconsistent disk-list-info

when using the disk-list-info API command, we sometimes get inconsistent info - some disks missing from the list. Seems to happen more on systems with more disks. (e.g. happens semi-regularly on a system running 8.0.2 7-Mode with 60 odd disks; doesn't happen on systems with less disks.) Found one reference to this before: http://communities.netapp.com/thread/1959 It's inconsistent enough that it's a pain to troubleshoot, so wondered if anyone had any solutions already: - is this a known issue? resolved in any OnTap version? - ways to avoid it? (does limiting the attributes returned in the result set help?) -does using perf-object-instance-list-info disk to get the disks, then looping through them via disk-list-info avoid the issue? upgrade to 8.0.2

We are currently running 7.2.6.1P9 on our 3160, and I want to upgrade to 7.3.3 or later. Any reason not to go all the way to 8.0.2? My hardware is all supported (finally got rid of those old disk shelves). And if we're upgrading, do you usually upgrade disk and shelf FW as well? Is this a requirement? I seem to be one version behind on most of my FW right now. FC attached tape drive to a 3210

Hi, I'm trying to setup a FC attached tape drive to the onboard FC ports (0c and 0d) of a FAS3210 >From my understanding I need to change the FC port to an Initiator, however this requires a reboot. FILER1> fcadmin config -t initiator 0d Thu Sep 1 11:54:21 GMT [fci.config.state:info]: Fibre channel target adapter 0d is in the PENDING (initiator) state. A reboot is required for the new adapter configuration to take effect. Does anyone know if there is a way round having to reboot the filer ?
