AFAIK NFS doesn't generically support ACL's yet - we're kinda waiting on NFS4 for that I believe. ISTR Solaris can do ACL's over NFS between Solaris boxes, but I may be wrong there. Greetings! Does anyone know if there is a way to make Access Control Lists work with NetApp boxes? In Solaris 2.5/2.6, you can use the setfacl and getfacl commands to set permissions for a file on a per-user and per-group basis. Unfortunately, this does not seem to work on our F330, at least not out-of-the-box. Has anyone had any experience with this? group and default quotas

Hi All, F230, 5.1D4, 256MB RAM, 2 volumes, predominatly CIFS. I'm trying to over ride a default quota using a group quota, so that some of my users get a bigger quota in their home directories than others. The home directories are in /vol/.vol0/users, so the default quota line in quota file is: * user@/vol/vol0/users 50M 2K which works fine. The line before this one in the quota file is: bigusers group@/vol/vol0/users 100M 4K where bigusers is a group specified in etc/group on the toaster and whose membership is a sub set of all th users. 'quota report' shows the 50M quota for the users, but those in the 'bigusers' group only have 50M as well. Anyone got any ideas? Has anybody gotten snap copy and used it? How well has it worked for you? Tranfer times? Impact on filer? We are getting a filer next week and I was wondering what to expect. Thanks. Alex

/etc/dgateways questions

This comment in the dgateways.5 manual page doesn't mean that you can't specify multiple addresses for a single router box, right? I assume not since I'm not getting error messages. :-) Duplicate gateway names or addresses are not allowed - only the first one encountered in the file will be added by routed to the default gateway table, and the additional ones will produce error messages. We only have one router per building right now, but each of our NetApps share more than one local interface with their respective building router because the NetApps are multihomed. My expectation is that by specifying multiple local interfaces for the router in /etc/dgateways will lessen the impact of a link failure affecting the current default gateway. A comment: it would be nifty if the selection of a default gateway (among gateways with the same metric) was more intelligent. It seems that the current method would easy allow a router interface that was going up and down more often than every 90 seconds to remain the default gateway. Any plans to change this? (A scheme based on reliability, traffic, and response time would be cool.) - Dan

Hi there! I've been asked some questions by our Y2K project team, specifically related to NetApp, and I'm unsure how to respond. >From the web page (http://www.netapp.com/y2k_table.html) it seems that the only thing that is 'preliminarily evaluated' is DOT 4.1. Can anyone give the authorative answer to: 1) Are there any plans to use a hardware clock that stores 4-digit years? 2) What Y2K tests were performed on DOT 4.1 3) Have later releases (4.1.3, 5.0, etc.) had the same tests run on them before release? 4) Can customers get access to NetApp test plans and results, directly or via a non-disclosure agreement? More generally, are people inclined to believe that, once certified by NetApp, the appliances can be treated as 'any other' NFS server by client machines, or would you advocate specific interoperational testing with NetApp kit? Access Times on ONTAP

Seeing as the specific data in question could be considered readonly to the majority of clients, why not have them use an automount map with both filers in.
