BudTool incremental backups behaving differently when using NDMP

Hi All, We recently turned on NDMP on our filer and have noticed different behavior with incremental backups. If we level 0 a qtree, then use Solaris ufsdump piped to the NetApp restore command to move files from a Solaris box to that qtree (such that the file attributes like ctime and mtime are older than the level 0 time), a subsequent level 9 dump will not see the added files. If we turn off NDMP on the filer, so BudTool's dump.NetApp class reverts to rsh'ing a Ontap "dump" command, then that DOES pick up the added files. We opened a call with NetApp (110424), they claimed to have made "incremental backups with NDMP available" in 5.3.5R2P2 which we upgraded to, but we are still seeing the same behavior. Yes, they should, on the other hand if you munge the cable ( anyone ever bent a few pins on a SCSI cable?? ) it'd be a bit easier to come up with a replacement DB9 cable. Filer Question

Not that serious a question, but we just got a new F720 and was wondering why the Fibre card has the funky connector on it, but the filer and the trays have a 9-pin connector? I would think as much as the box was idiot-proofed they would of at least used a different connector for the shelves then from the serial devices.... Anyone know? Hints: be sure to turn on snmp with "snmp init 1" turn traps on with "snmp traps on" set the traphost with "snmp traphost add <host>" Notes: traps were introduced in 5.3 you have to get stuff right on the Openview end too If these don't solve your problem, please open a call with NetApp support. using openview to receive traps from a 740 filer

Is anyone using Openview to receive traps from a 740 filer? We have installed the MIB file into Openview on a Sun box and added several snmp traps to the /etc/rc file on the filer. If we pull a power supply a trap should be sent to Openview for translation and then send a page informing me of a problem. We are not seeing any traps from the filer but Netapps said this should work. If you have in input on our problem please send me a message. Hi Folks, There seems to be not very much that would be considered "filer" or "appliance" in SUN's new N8200. A closer loo reveals that SUN's new "filer" is apparently a SUN server and A1000 storage array bundled into one marketing code. They have been shipping the A1000 technology in various forms for quite a while now. This is the stuff that they OEM from Symbios Logic/LSI/MetaStor. Its pretty much a standard SUN server and direct attached storage that the SUN marketing guys are calling a "filer". looking at performance data

We have F720. I clocked the filer with statit and wafl_susp commands and I'm looking at the output. Is there somewhere I can get some documentation to help me understand what I'm looking at? I know what some of the different things are, i.e. CP from CP, but I'm wondering if there are some detailed docs out there somewhere. I took a brief look at the NOW site but couldn't find anything... Why? The FC specification allows the "funky" HSSDC and the DB-9. When we started shipping FC, the DB-9 was by far the most prevalent and it is a good reliable connector. We had also heard rumor that the HSSDC was not as reliable. (We have never seen any real data, including our own experience to date, to back that up.) We have stayed with the DB-9 for consistency (i.e., less confusion in the field). We use the HSSDC on the adapter because that is what is on the adapter. Hi Dave, The normal process for replacement parts is that they are shipped from NetApp's European Support Centre in the Netherlands (CSEURO), and so no VAT should be payable. If you are in Europe and need any replacment parts, please ask that they be shipped from CSEURO. If parts are shipped from the USA, it is possible to avoid paying the VAT if the correct import processes are followed and the paperwork for the replaced goods when exported are tied up with that for the imported ones - however, this is much more complex and doesn't always work. Hopefully your reseller will be able to resolve this.
