Jumbo Packets with netapp FAS3050

Hello All, We have been using our netapp primarily for NAS storage, but I am experimenting with iSCSI now for some specific applications. I managed to create a bit of a network issue recently when I tried enabling jumbo packets on my netapp and my test server. The iSCSI connection kept resyncing and was not stable. I think this was because I didn't create a separate vlan for the devices using jumbo packets. Upon further research, I found mention that some devices/ oses calculate the checksums differently and that can affect the max packet size. Does anyone have any recommendations for a packet size for both the netapp and for my linux servers? is 10240 a safe bet(max size supported by my switch) or should I use something like 9000 or 8192? Should I use a different packet size if I am connecting a target to a windows box? I would ideally like to make a jumbo packets vlan and just set all the devices on that vlan to a larger MTU, but I don't want to create a network traffic problem in the process. VMware - snap - backup

Dear group. I have some scripting working now - 1- Snap all VM machines on ESX 2- Snap VOL on filer 3- delete snaps on ESX - Question is: How do I copy/backup out my Snaps on the filer ? I have an external Windows Server and software iSCSI. License is only iSCSI on the filer. cached iscsi initiator?

Hello All, I am currently having a problem with a linux software iscsi initiator that seems to be cached. When I attempt to make the connection from the iscsi interface to the filer, I end up with two iqn's from the same host on the filer via "iscsi show initiator". The problem then is that I cannot mount the LUN due to their being duplicate initiators. Is there a way to clear a cached initiator? Thanks.

FCP curiosity

Hi I've just set up a 3020C with two HBA attached to a couple of Brocade, and on these, 2 couple of HBA coming from 2 Windows host. A SAN, do you know it? J The links are the usual ones: i.e. the 1st HBA of host "A" to the upper Brocade, the 2nd to the lower and so on...the 0b of the head to the upper, the 0d to the lower and the same for other head. When I perform a scan of fcp channels (priv set advanced, don't remember now the command) from one of the two head of the 3020C I see 4 WWN of the 4 HBA of the hosts repente two times (4 real and 4 replicated) and I've already saw this times ago (the path is replicated through the cluster interconnect). But when I perform the same from the other head I can see only 4 WWN belonging to the hosts. Why? Something wrong on link of the hosts to the couple of switch? Maybe because I've not yet zoned the switches? Thanx a lot

I think VCB requires that you are running Virtual Center so you will need to deploy that. which netapp LUN corresponds to which Windows disk ?

We have a bunch of netapp LUNs of the same size mapped to a Windows box and it isn't clear how we can tell which one is which. I'm not a Windows person. The Windows admin sent me the Windows info about one of the disks and I can't see anything that would indicate which LUN it is on the netapp. Nothing appears to correspond to the LUN serial number or the igroup mapping number, etc. Is there a way to read the Windows "disk signature" with a netapp command? Or is there a Windows command to print the LUN serial number? Or what about the igroup mapping number?
