vmware on nfs stability issues

We have stability issues with vmware esx (3.0.2) on nfs whenever there is a cluster failover. The datastores come back online after the failover is complete (30-40 seconds), but some of the virtual servers (solaris/windows) can crash while the failover takes place. There are probably some timeout settings I need to configure on all esx hosts, but the NetApp best practice guide on vmware/nfs does not mention changes other than the locking parameter. cifs.homedir and Microsoft DFS global name space

Does anyone have experience setting up cifs.homedir feature on FAS3040 (Ontap 7.2) with Microsoft DFS global name space? I have been trying to set this up but permission are causing as issue. Homedir feature works fine without DFS but when we use DFS then users can access other users home drives also as permission needs to be set for everyone to have full access. Only a few million. TR3369 is a netapp doc. It used to be here: Http://www.netapp.com/library/tr/3369.pdf In short, the problem is likely either a host NFS config or even Oracle config. EVERY one of the NFS mount options are critical. performance comparisons between VMware on iSCSI and NFS

HI all We've just discussed about this but I'm looking for more realistic samples that compare VMware on iSCSI and on NFS. With "realistic" I mean not 100% sequentials read/write like the ones that have been presented at VMworld. Have you something about? Thank you in advance

Upgrade 900 series to 3000 series filer

we need to replace an older 900 series cluster with a new 3070 cluster. i want to make sure i dont miss anything or gotchas etc, looked on NOW but didnt find a complete guide or maybe i searched wrong. we have 2 new 3070 heads and cables in the box and here is the current plan 1) shutdown and unmount storage nfs/iscsi 2) update to current ontap 7.2.4 (currently at 7.2.3) 3) reboot and allow shelf/disk firmware updates to complete 4) shutdown and remove 9XX heads and cabling 5) install 3070 heads, recable primary and secondary loops 6) power on heads, ensure licenses are current and installed and verify volumes 7) reload ontap with 3000 series architecture release 7.2.4 7) update rc file with new interface names any major gaps in the above or comments from folks who have done this recently? i went over this with the netapp tech rep and it seems pretty straightforward but always want peer review :)

Quick program I put together

All, I put together a quick program which calculates the actual usable space you get based on the various configuration options you can set on a filer. It's a .net application but I'm guessing it should run via wine for any *nix folks. I need to add SAS disks as an option, and if anyone knows of an authoritative source on rightsizing (I calculated the percentages based on looking at specific disk information). Anyway, it's somewhat thrown together and not completely finished, but I thought I would see if any folks out there might find it useful before I wasted any more time on it. Also, it would be nice to see how close it gets to people's actual configurations. Some Filerview Pages Not Working

Upgrade of N'tap 7.0.x to 7.2.4 and now some filerview pages initialize java and then do not display. Happens with IE 6 and 7, various windows versions and Mozilla as well.
