Value too large for defined data type

We administer our filers from a Solaris 8 machine: this is where the home directories (on the NetApp) for new users are created, and from where they are removed for old users. Occasionally removal of the home directory and its contents partially fails: Value too large for defined data type An "ls -lR" on the residual directory gives similar "Value too large ..." message for the residual files that the "rm ..." has been unable to remove. I cannot find a definitive statement about this, but I recall (and strongly suspect) something to do with a timestamp (ctime, mtime, atime etc.) having some sort of integer sign-bit wrap-around issue (and that if _were_ able to display it, the result would typically have a year in the big-band 1940s era...) And that NFS (from our Solaris 8 admin machine) has trouble with such things. Is this likely to be the problem? If so, are there any recommended solutions (or paths to investigate)? Equatorial Guinea’s president Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo and his government deposited up to $700 million in U.S.’ Riggs Bank. A U.S. Senate subcommittee’s 2004 investigation criticized Riggs for failing to report potential money laundering in the Equatorial Guinea accounts. It also outlined examples of how Riggs allowed Obiang to make cash deposits and withdrawals from accounts he controlled personally. Riggs, which was acquired by PNC last year, later agreed to pay a $16 million fine for failing to report these and other suspicious transactions. Equatorial Guinea’s embassy insists the money, which was released back to the country, belongs to the government. "Attributing that money to President Obiang’s personal wealth is like saying a person who runs a hospital is worth the amount of revenue the hospital generates," the embassy spokesperson wrote in an e-mail. A half dozen other sources disagree. "They may say it is the country’s money, but the president does control everything," says Arvind Ganesan, a director at Human Rights Watch who has studied how the Equatorial Guinea government uses its oil revenue, "Under Obiang, the country's wealth is basically a presidential ATM." So they say. Now that this report has been made public, the President has decided that some deposits made with particular banks in Europe be diverted so as to retain them, therefore, I want to inform you that by virtue of my position as a special duties coordinator to the President of Equatorial Guinea Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, I have the honour of nominating and appointing you as a front. Stephen, The audit role is ill-conceived since the capability login-http-admin gives full access to the filer via filerview. This is fixed in bug 167183, but it's not available to customers at this time. In ONTAP 7.0 and 7.1, roles are limited primarily to the command line. There's a workaround for the apis (if you use the SDK, I can help there), but nothing is available for FV. Given the limitations, instead of looking for read-only access, I'd recommend you decide which cli commands to give to which administrator. You can do this by creating your own role for a list of commands. The following will allow a user to run any cifs commands via telnet or rsh. Hi Juliansysconfig -v should give you a bit more information about what these drives are and what firmware release they have on them. http://now.netapp.com/NOW/download/tools/diskfw/ is a list of the latest firmware for various NetApp drives, and if I look there I see that NA13 is indeed the latest firmware for the ST318203FC.I would try visiting http://now.netapp.com/NOW/download/tools/diskqual/ and installing the latest disk qualification file -- this is basically a table of what disks the filer accepts. Beyond this it would probably be worth getting us a copy of sysconfig -v; I would check that the shelf contains all the same disks. I've seen this many times myself as a former Unix Sysadmin working in a mixed Solaris, Linux, Windows and Mac environment. Solaris can't see any dates previous to the epoch (1972?) Linux (at least RedHat) can see timestamps back to the year 1900 so NFS mounting to a linux workstation was how I managed to fix date-timestamps.
