Have a GF940 & 3020v cluster hooked up to Hitachi 9585V's and works a treat. Just make SURE you stay within that compatibility matrix: ONTAP version FC Switch Firmware (different requirements for back-end than host connectivity!) Hitachi/EVA Firmware What's nice is how quickly disks zero, what's not nice is when the back-end tech accidently blows away the LUNs you're operating on. Problem renewing maintenance

We're having a problem renewing maintenance cover on our F810. I wonder whether anyone else has had a similar experience. It's being done through a secondary supplier who had better remain nameless for the moment (just in case it's their fault rather than NetApp's...). We originally brought 3 years of cover: "Next Business Day Parts Delivery" for failed disks (which has worked fine, incidentally); "4 hours onsite service" for the base unit and disk shelf. Now we are being told that we can't have such a combination: it has to be all NBD Parts or all 4hrs Onsite. This doesn't make any sense to us. Disk failures are non-critical, and only the ... (ahem) very differently abled ... need someone to come and swap a disk for them! OTOH, base unit & shelf failures would be critical for us. Please tell me that NetApp haven't _really_ made it this difficult to buy the obviously appropriate combination of cover! -- Chris Thompson Email: cet1(a)cam.ac.uk

Auditing impact. We have full auditing turned on for Domain admins and some limited user auditing turned on. This generates 20 to 40 meg of logs per day. I have ours set to keep 30 logs rotating to a new log at the 20 meg mark (currently 635 meg total). They rotate about once per day at these settings (sometime twice). If I have a data migration to do I can, and have, caused all thirty logs to rotate in one evening. Here is how I see the script going: Pull down cifs audit.evt files from the filer Convert to CSV Parse the csv and generate a report to show which users are hitting which shares & files Submit records to mysql or another db so we have a historical security audit log DB for cifs. Three Qs: 1 - Would this work with NFS - it seems we lack NFS auditing with DOT. 2 - Is this something DFM could do? 3. What if any performance impact is seen by enabling NTFS file auditing (all options) for say 10 TB of data. Any help or feedback would be appreciated. Dear Beloved, THIS IS THE REAL STORY FROM YEAR 2000 TILL DATE. CONTROVERSIAL U.S. PLUTONIUM SHIPMENT FLIES BY HELICOPTOR TO CHALK RIVER AECL subjects Canadians to risky flight. Toronto, Jan 14, 2000: Greenpeace condemned AECL (Atomic Energy of Canada Limited) and Transport Canada today for endangering the Canadian public by flying plutonium from Sault Ste. Marie to Chalk River Ont. The shipment was flown by helicopter without any prior notification. The transport was made despite the fact that the US environmental assessment for the shipment says that such transports would be prohibited in the US under the law and that they rejected air transport due to its greater risk. The AECL made this transport using a transport container (type B) which has been found to be inadequate for air transport. In fact, in 1996 Canada supported an IAEA decision to require that plutonium be shipped in a new and more robust type of container, the type C container, which was to replace the less robust and inadequate type B transport containers. This transport does not comply with the new international standard." , said Greenpeace campaign director, Steve Shallhorn. "Industry and government have been reckless and utterly irresponsible in choosing to use an inadequate and outdated container. It would appear that making this transport in secret was more important than guaranteeing that this shipment be made in the safest and most secure fashion." Flying plutonium is just irresponsible and reckless." said Shallhorn, "The US itself rejected air transport of this shipment saying that it was prohibited by law and considered more hazardous than ground transport due to the potential for greater distribution of radioactive materials in the event of a major air accident." Touted by the Prime Minister and AECL as a contribution to nuclear disarmament, the Parallex test is to bring samples of Russian and American plutonium (in the form of MOX nuclear reactor fuel) to AECL's Chalk River facility in order to test the suitability of the fuel for CANDU reactors. The shipments were to arrive within two weeks of each other, first by late spring, then summer, most recently by the end of 1999. The Parallex test is about selling CANDU reactors and propping up the dying, heavily subsidized nuclear industry in Canada. Not one bomb will be destroyed by this program and Canada will be stuck with an even worse nuclear waste problem." Said Shallhorn. In that same year when the first shipment was made to California, I was then working as a junior clerk with a courier company here in The United State. I took record of all the first package of the nuclear Sample and entered the confirmation in the record book. After the scrutiny Was done by the ministry of environment, the Bill Clinton government Declined the entire process and ordered the stoppage of more nuclear Samples.
