Never heard of anyone doing that, per se. Performance issues? I can't really think of any that would be different than striping across two EMC or NetApp arrays. There was a spares_zero command (priv set diag). However: 1.) I don't know if the command existed in 5.3.X 2.) 'priv set diag' isn't the privileged mode in 5.3.X - I don't remember the proper one (and am quite frankly too lazy to look it up at the moment). The license for the filer would probably be cheaper than the SUN equipment :P Also - iSCSI (while free for customers) is not supported on the F700 series (but will work). Disk Firmware upgrade

Hi, I'm looking for help with F760 and Ontap 6.5.6. Does anyone have problem experience using "disk_fw_update" without enable cf (cluster). How can i upgrade the dis firmware without enable cluster? The error: filer4*> disk_fw_update Are you sure you want to continue with firmware update? yes (You can ignore disk error messages for disks being updated until this update completes) Cluster interconnect not available (cf disabled?). Unable to download firmware. -Klau

We've got an old F230 that I was finally able to decommission today, and I figure even though I've deleted all the data it would probably be a good idea to scrub the disks a bit for security purposes. Problem is I just can't remember (and can't seem to find searching around NOW) what the best way to do that back in OnTap 5.3.7R3D18 was. iSCSI licenses are not free! They are only free to customers who have licensed a NAS protocol (CIFS or NFS). Evidenced by the fact that you must log into the NOW site to get the iSCSI license key....
