The only issue I have ever ran into is with Networker. If you need to a restore for more than 1024 files you can not use DAR. The work around is to turn off DAR, rerun the restore and it works fine. Just keep in mind the restore will be slow because you will have to walk through the tapes sequentially until the files are fond. What kind of problems are you having? I have not had any major issues with either Networker NDMP or Netbackup NDMP. Hello Prem, Yes, ndmpcopy can be used for data migration, and it works with full volumes, qtrees and even plain directories. But no single file ndmpcopies yet. Regardless of the granularity of your dataset to be copied, a limited number of incrementals are supported as well, so you will have to check the man page along with the ndmpcopy utility you are using for this. BGS Best1's data collector has now apparently been combined with BMC Patrol so that (despite my personal dislike for Patrol) it might be a goer. TBYB. Alternatively simply using the various *stat's with some noddy bits of perl or shell-script will give useful date/time-stamped tables which you can then graph using spreadsheet software or gnuplot, and are quite amenable to importing into databases or packages like SAS. RRDTool is also a likely candidate for the kind of performance-tracking trending and capacity planning that you might want to do. RRDTool doesn't collect data though, just helps you work with time-based data. -- -Mark ... an Englishman in London ...

I disagree, we have copied numerous Terabytes of Data from NT/Novell servers to Filers using Robocopy. I wish to copy a whole volume from naca:/source to nacb:/dest . Can I copy a qtree nacC:/vol/vol0/qtree to nacb:/dest/qtree..? Will the ndmpcopy be able to do the incremental later, if the case one is possible. prem

Go with NDMP on Legato. As others stated, NDMP and Legato work very well. I have setup a few environments with Legato Networker and NDMP via Netapp. The nice thing about NDMP is you directly dump off the Netapp to tape which is very quick. It will push LTO and SDLT tape drives to the full performance capabilities. In addition, the CPU overhead required to do a NDMP backup vs over NFS is much lower on the Netapp. Keep in mind though that the tape drives dedicated to the Netapp for NDMP can not be shared by other non Netapp Legato clients/storage nodes/servers (can be shared by other Netapps though).
