Has anyone got experience with doing Sybase (ASE 12.5, Solaris 2.6 and 2.8) dump on NetApp filers ? I am looking for recommendations on this subject: what is the best architecture ? Volume sizes

I just added two DS14 shelves to an F840. I have 24 of the disks available for a new volume(s). Would it be better to create 2 volumes of 12, 72G drives or 1 volume of 24, 72G drives. The filer is used as a cache for storing radiology images. No backups are required and there are no snapshots required either. I have two hot spares available.

Password recovery in a cluster

Anyone know if the method outlined in 3.0.1379841.2577228 (http://now.netapp.com/Knowledgebase/solutionarea.asp?id=3.0.1379841.2577228) for password recovery is supposed while in a cluster? I'm thinking there may be a caveat, because the recovery procedure involves writing to the boot blocks of the filer's drives, which in a failover situation is owned by the partner. Cluster software, homegrown scripts or manual failover for oracle /netapp env -- any real world processes people want to share?

Currently our failover process is a manual one based on the scenario that our primary production server has gone down and the netapp server and database is ok. The process is tested and works very well. The cons is that its not an automatic solution but we can get the system back up in less than 30 minutes after being alerted at random any time of the day. Interested in what others are doing. art
