*** Before acting on this e-mail or opening any attachment you are advised to read the disclaimer at the end of this e-mail *** FWIW we exportfs the /etc folder read only, and nightly copy across to a Win2K server (via WS-FTP PRO Sync utility) so that the folder gets onto the Win2K server backup cycle including month ends etc. That way we have an online copy, and on month end tapes in the NT space so it is restorable without having to get the Filer up first. thanks a lot. Looks like it isn't used too often with GBEs so far bad gets more popular with the FAS900 series as they actually want that much data or otherwise they get bored :) and just to correct some wrong impression that I might have spread, I heard about the switch's performance being badly impacted by having to do the hashing algorithm, never heard anything bad about the filer. And then it was only with some switch manufacturers, iirc it said Cisco switches scale nicely. has anyone ever configured one multi vif across 4 GBE interfaces? Is there anything to watch out for? I read rumors (can't find the source anymore) that the hashing algorithm to do the load sharing might badly impact performance. ndmpcopy -sa and -da options

Hi Following my last post I used ndmpcopy to copy data from one filer to another one. Things ran pretty well I have a question regarding the -sa and -da options is there a way not to type the root passwd in the command line as is this cleartext and I do not want someone else look at THIS on the filer console ? Duplicate files in an NFS directory.

We have a NFS file system exported from our filer (it is also a CIFS shared folder). One of the sub-directories in this file system has duplicate files and directories. The duplicated files and directories have the same inode number. See the example below: #ls -i 758588 NPR1/ 758583 docs/ 758588 NPR1/ 758583 docs/ 758587 README.version 758584 images/ 758587 README.version 758584 images/ 758586 bin/ 758585 licensing/ 758586 bin/ 758585 licensing/ 758582 cgi/ 758589 nprinfo 758582 cgi/ 758589 nprinfo None of the sub-directories in this particular directory has duplicate files and directories. The directories and files above this directory in the file system tree do not have duplicate files and directories. Has anyone seen this issue before? One of my colleagues has resolved this problem before by using the UNIX touch command to change the timestamp on a file in a duplicated directory. I have tried this and it did not resolve the issue this time. Thank you in advance for your help. How do I stop this from happening? Netapp suggests using snoop to try and capture this problem, but they have not told us what they are looking for. Mitko, since oplocking is a normal feature and saves cpu/network cycles i do not want to disable oplocks. If there is a bug i want to fix that. But its a good hint to investigate further. At the moment we have each day some clients NT4 / W2K that are freezing during normal work. Traces on the network show, that one of the last things they made was accessing the Filer and having a lot of retransmits. Does anybody has made similiar experience?
