Leonard, We're using gigE cards (X1025B) for dedicated network to Oracle databases/server on 2 F740s & have experienced very good performance from them. Use slots 8, 7 or 6, in that order of preference. If you have those slots populated, with FC or SCSI adapters for instance, move one of the FC adapters to slots 3, 2 or 1, in that preference. Slot 8 will probably be available, though; use it if you can. We've supported this configuration on both DOT 5.xxx & 6.xxx. syslog forwarding issue

Our filer has been forwarding its messages file to our syslog server without any issues. We switched the entry in the syslog.conf file to another syslog server, and stopped receiving the logs. I double-checked the format of the syslog.conf file to make sure there were no unwanted spaces. I also verified we were resolving the IP address of the other syslog server, and we also checked the messages file to make sure that syslogd was restarted. Everything looked right, our messages file was still working, but the logs were not forwarding to our syslog host. Now here is the kicker, when we could not figure out what was causing the problem we switched back to our original log-host (which has worked fine) and we still were not getting the logs. About six hours later the log host started to receive the files. I verified that the syslogd was restarted after I edited the syslog.conf file. Has anyone had this problem, or have any ideas on what might be causing it? Thanks Drew

Hi! I have since I upgraded to OnTap 6.1.1R2 problems accessing a cifs share which have everyone - Full Control permission. The accounts which have the problem are restricted to only logon to a certain Windows 2000 Professional client. All other accounts work fine. The share points to a unix qtree and the accounts are mapped in the usermap.cfg file. Problem accessing cifs share

Hi! I have a problem with accessing a cifs share which has everyone - Full Control permissions. The problem started when I upgraded to OnTap 6.1.1R2. I can't access the share with accounts that have been restricted to only be able to logon to a certain Windows 2000 Professional client. The share lies on a unix filesystem and the user is mapped to a unix account in usermap.cfg. UNC and username specification

Hello, Is it possible to specify the username and password to connect to the filer's CIFS service in the UNC path? Several years ago when I was running SAMBA on a Linux box, I was able to connect from Windows to a share with this syntax: \\servername\sharename%username:password The ":password" was optional, if it was not specified then Lan Manager would come back and prompt for the password specified in "%username". Can anyone shed some light on this? I am getting CRC errors only on some of my linux clients. netapp support is trying to find the bug id or trouble call id. It has followed the connection from an F330 to an F760; both on quad ethernet cards(different model cards). It has survived from 5.3.4 to 6.1R1. The clients see hangs on large file reads and "TCP 111" errors even though we mount UDP NFS V3. Clients even report "server not responding". I'd appreciate any help, if someone has researched this problem area. The latest version of NetShield, 4.5, with the latest scan engine, 4.1.50. I've not tried it using the VirusScan desktop version.
