NDMP Questions

If anybody has dug deep into using Veritas Netbackup NDMP to backup the filer. 1) Since NDMP uses dump, if you loose tape 5 of 8 does that mean you loose the entire backup / restore? 2) Can you restore file X without spanning all tapes that are part of the dump? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

To preserve ACLs when copying you can just use scopy.exe. It comes with the NT resource kit. Alternatively you can use a backup/restore process. There are also some very nice third party migration tools, such as SecureCopy from smallwonders.com, which copy files+ACLs, shares, local groups, etc. between servers. I believe every CIFS statistic that we keep is in MIB 1.2, even the propeller-head stuff IIRC, and most of them are in the MIB that ships with 5.3.x. Do an snmpwalk of .1.3.6.1.4.1.789.1.7 and you'll see everything that's there. There only seem to be two MIB entries for http running on a filer in MIB 1.2. They report the low and high 32 bits of a 64 bit quantity representing the total number of http operations. Where did the "tools" or utility section of NOW go? I can't seem to find it anymore. I'm looking for a utility to migrate data from some of our NT servers to some of our filers that will preserve all ACLs set on the files being moved. Apparently, just copying via NT doesn't do this.
