We currently run ClearCase 4.0 using local disk for our vob and view storage. We're interested in moving the entirety of our ClearCase storage to NetApp. Ideally, we'd like to simply shutdown ClearCase, copy the vobstore and viewstore data to the NetApp filesystems, remount the NetApp filesystems at the same mount-point as the local filesystems had been and restart ClearCase. I've never been given a clear explanation from Rational on whether this would work or not, but the general feeling has been that it won't. When I've pressed for a reason why not, I've been told "because it's not the method that's documented"
My question for netapp folks out there is if anyone's attempted what I've described above and if it worked or not. Also if you know it won't work and could explain to me why, I'd appreciate it.
Note, our ClearCase is running on HPUX 10.20, the NetApp is configured only for NFS, no CIFS.
Thanks,

Please help us let people know about our Wired story, and forward this email to as many people as you can.
Let me explain:
For those of you who don't know me, I am Ken Belanger.
I got together with a bunch of unemployed Dot-Comers and actors, and made a software game called www.pc187.com. It turns out we did a great job. Check out what wired said.
<a href="http://www.wired.com/news/games/0,2101,48256,00.html"> http://www.wired.com/news/games/0,2101,48256,00.html </a>
But, because we are unemployed and close to broke (actually most of us are majorly in debt now), we have no way of getting the word out about our game.
Currently Microsoft and Sony are spending millions to sell their new games. It makes it close to impossible for us little guys (currently unemployed) to get noticed.
With your support and a little luck, we can sell enough copies to pay the bills and make another episode.
Check out the website and game. If you like it, then please forward this email to as many people as you can, so we can continue on, and someday take on SONY and Microsoft.
Thanks for your support.
Ken
P.S. Please accept my apologies if I offended you by sending this email. Over 50 people contributed in making this game, and we would really like it to get a fair shot against Microsoft and Sony. It will only happen with your help.
