We're running some ESX 4.0 hosts with VMFS and RDM LUNs on our filers running 7.2.6.1. We are planning a upgrade to 7.3.2
Should we expect to do LUN resignatures on VMware after the upgrade?
Thanks
Suresh
Hi Suresh
ONTAP upgrades should not cause LUN serial numbers to change, so resignaturing should not be necessary. If LUN S/N do change, change them back and ESX should rescan and be happy.
Before you start, collect "lun show -v".
After upgrade, look at lun show -v again and compare LUN Serial#.
If they changed, for each LUN
lun offline <lun>
lun serial <lun> <old_sn>
lun online <lun>

Its also worth getting a dump of your initiator group information too (we had LUN re-sig and lost out igroup info doing a head / OS upgrade). Luckily we had screenshots and dumps of the sigs to re-create things afterwards.
Cheers, Raj.
