Its also worth getting a dump of your initiator group information too (we had LUN re-sig and lost out igroup info doing a head / OS upgrade). Luckily we had screenshots and dumps of the sigs to re-create things afterwards.

Cheers,
Raj.

Hi Suresh

ONTAP upgrades should not cause LUN serial numbers to change, so resignaturing should not be necessary.  If LUN S/N do change, change them back and ESX should rescan and be happy.

Before you start, collect “lun show -v”.

After upgrade, look at lun show -v again and compare LUN Serial#.

If they changed, for each LUN

lun offline  <lun>

lun serial <lun> <old_sn>

lun online  <lun>

Share and enjoy!

Subject: LUN resignaturing

We’re running some ESX 4.0 hosts with VMFS and RDM LUNs on our filers running 7.2.6.1.  We are planning a upgrade to 7.3.2

Should we expect  to do LUN resignatures on VMware after the upgrade?

Thanks

Suresh
