Hey,
I'm interested in the ways people keep their firmware updated on their filers. On the support website, you can download all.zip and all_shelf_fw.zip, but they are most of the time not recent enough, so f.ex. today I could download all.zip from 10-APR-19 and there is more recent firmware for quite some disks dated with 17-May-19. Does anyone know if there is a public/private URL where I can download a "nightly" build or something like this for all.zip? Or is there any URL/FTP/etc. (without having to parse the download website with some selenium scripts or something like that) that I could use to mirror all the firmware files to one of my servers and create the zip file there?
Best,

Almost 99% of the time it seems like those fw releases are b/c of a new drive being released, e.g. latest NVMe drives, etc. My advice for how to stay on top of fw for drives and everything else really is to keep on top of patching ONTAP since the FW bundles are now included (and have been for some time) in the ONTAP upgrade packages.

There have been some firmware issues recently (just deleted the mails already, but I've got one from the past):
https://kb.netapp.com/app/answers/answer_view/a_id/1073782
When something like this happens, then these firmware files are _NOT_ integrated into the all.zip f.ex. immediately and there also was no Ontap update within a short period of time after these firmware updates have been released.

Are you including “P” releases in that assessment? The general GA release might not have it but if an issue is ID’ed in the month before a “P” release comes out it’s been my understanding that those FW updates should roll up to the next “P” release — i.e. 9.5 -> 9.5P4

Yes, for some of these high critical firmware issues, 4 weeks until the next P release can be tough. Also, you cannot update all customers immediately to the next P-release once available, some customers have stricter rules and only one maintenance window for software updates a year.
I’m trying to find a way to always have the latest available disk firmware in one place which will then serve as the url-to-go for disk firmware updates throughout my installed base. In the past, I’ve manually downloaded the all*zip files regularly and I’m trying to find a way that can be better automated which ideally also notifies me of new firmware updates then. Our storage management software can then (on staging, development, etc. boxes) also automatically install the new qual_devices and all*.zip files to test them there.

To the best of my knowledge, as a customer, there is no such a thing. But looking forward to what other Toasters have to say on this topic.
I've been requesting this via various means to NetApp, i.e. to offer a place were you as a customer can download images and various firmwares, etc, without writing my own website scrapper, or selenium scripts.
One of the last updates I got, was that they are planning to add some features to OCUM that would pull these updates from netapp and let you know that there are new files/patches for you to apply. But not sure of the whole scope of this feature, and when will it become available.

Pablo.

Yah, a plain old FTP access would be enough – or just a web listing with all available binaries 😊 We’re currently trying to build local repositories for firmware and ontap images a spart of our storage management platform and getting access to new releases is a vital feature here. But I guess we’ll do some scripting.

you may want to try the brand new ActiveIQ API Services to find out if a cluster needs a (disk-fw) upgrade:
https://mysupport.netapp.com/myautosupport/dist/index.html#/apidocs/serviceD...
Well... this certainly is not an answer to your question but may be helpful to monitor the need for upgrades.

Does anyone know if there is a public/private URL where I can download a „nightly“ build or something like this for all.zip?
Or is there any URL/FTP/etc. (without having to parse the download website with some selenium scripts or something like that) that I could use to mirror all the firmware files to one of my servers and create the zip file there?
To the best of my knowledge, as a customer, there is no such a thing. But looking forward to what other Toasters have to say on this topic.
I've been requesting this via various means to NetApp, i.e. to offer a place were you as a customer can download images and various firmwares, etc, without writing my own website scrapper, or selenium scripts.
One of the last updates I got, was that they are planning to add some features to OCUM that would pull these updates from netapp and let you know that there are new files/patches for you to apply.
But not sure of the whole scope of this feature, and when will it become available.
Regards,
Pablo.

Well... this certainly is not an answer to your question but may be helpful to monitor the need for upgrades.
best regards Tim
Indeed, we implemented some code to detect these risks, but it doesn't solve the download problem.

Yah, a plain old FTP access would be enough – or just a web listing with all available binaries 😊
We’re currently trying to build local repositories for firmware and ontap images a spart of our storage management platform and getting access to new releases is a vital feature here.
But I guess we’ll do some scripting.

Hey,
I’m interested in the ways people keep their firmware updated on their filers. On the support website, you can download all.zip and all_shelf_fw.zip, but they are most of the time not recent enough, so f.ex. today I could download all.zip from 10-APR-19 and there is more recent firmware for quite some disks dated with 17-May-19.

Thanks,
while it’s not exactly what I was looking for, it’s at least an indication that a new firmware is available. I’ll check if that helps in my workflow, thanks for the hint!
