Sure can. All the "network traffic" is going through the loopback interface. Check out your ifstat -a and you'll see it.

When running ndmpcopy, copying data localy, on an idle machine, I notice that when running sysstat I see that while there is intensive disk activity there is also intensive network activity of similar magnitude.
I assumed that all the data would remain local on the netapp without any attempt of data going over the net.
Can someone explain.
