Well thank you John ;)
Neil: Here's where you can see what I am monitoring on my filer with MRTG: http://redhook.univ-wea.com/mrtg/ http://redhook.univ-wea.com/mrtg/
Pike is the name of the filer.... The first two images are the plain vanilla traffic analysis that you get when you run 'perl cfgmaker public@blah.blah.blah mailto:public@blah.blah.blah etc...' The next five are CPU utilization, CIFS Sessions and three different volume usage charts. You can see the section of my cfg file for those 5 charts here: http://redhook.univ-wea.com/mrtg/pike_mrtg.txt http://redhook.univ-wea.com/mrtg/pike_mrtg.txt
You can use this as a reference, the MRTG config file format: http://iserv.nl/traffic/mrtg-conf.html http://iserv.nl/traffic/mrtg-conf.html
The OID's on my config file are currently correct and working; two weeks ago (a friday evening) I was upgrading a carrier scanner for Pike (can't remember which one it was - molson or modelo - they are now identical) and Pike panicked and rebooted. It came back fine and I went home. When Pike rebooted, a couple of OID's for monitoring the volumes changed. I did not get a chance to fix the problem until I came back a week later (I was in Dallas for a Cisco class that week). You can see the change here: http://redhook.univ-wea.com/mrtg/pike.homes.html http://redhook.univ-wea.com/mrtg/pike.homes.html Look at the monthly graph and you'll see what I mean... Anyways, hope this helps....

Depends mostly on what platform you want to run MRTG on.. Win32 or *nix. I've monitored the filers on both platforms, and had a much better run of setting it up on NT. Luckily (for me) you don't have to be an SNMP God to make MRTG work, you only really need to worry about the configuration files.
The NOW site has some docs, but perhaps Mr. Ortega could share some of his .conf files as they appear to be quite flawless ;)
