Hello,
I'm trying to install OnCommand® Performance Manager on a freshly installed CentOS 6.7 machine. Has anyone done this? or is RHEL the only linux distro supported?
snippet from yum install *.rpm command:
Unsupported operating system version detected. This installation requires Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.5 or later. The installation will terminate now.

It will not install on a non-enterprise version of Linux (Debian, CentOS, Ubuntu). You have to use RHEL or SLES.
If you're running it to monitor CDOT, try the appliance version or for 7-Mode switch over to a supported flavor Linux of Windows for the host OS.
Sorry to disappoint.

I figured that was the case.
I am currently running CDOT 8.3P1
What are you referring to with "the appliance version" ?
Thanks for the help, Scott

There is now a VMware appliance version of OCUM and the Performance Manager as well.
Here's a link to the OCUM download. You'll need vSphere 5+ to run it.

I have installed OnCommand on many centos machines, just need to change the redhat-release file to match the rhel equivelant of centos 6 . I think it is "Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.1 (Santiago)" that you need to replace in the file. On Sep 17, 2015 9:29 PM, "Scott Classen" sclassen@lbl.gov wrote:

Hi Scott,
I can't remember if it was this or OCUM 6.x, but I just changed the /etc/redhat-release file to match what a rhel system would have and the install worked.
I was running CentOS 6.7.
I only went to the VMware appliance for performance manager because I knew NetApp wouldn't give me any support if I needed it once they found out it was CentOS.
Ended up putting OCUM Windows (instead of VMware appliance, or CentOS for above reason) so I could get at the cli for it.
Turns out it wasn't worth it.

That's true, I had forgotten you could do that. At any rate, I'd rather run a "supported" version if it makes my life easier.
I really like the appliance version, it's very straightforward and doesn't require messing around with administering yet another server.
Of course your mileage may vary depending on preferences.
By the way if you're feeling a bit brave, check out the release candidate for version 6.3 of OCUM, there's some pretty slick feature enhancements:
http://mysupport.netapp.com/NOW/download/software/oncommand_cdot/6.3RC1/
* Data ONTAP monitoring enhancements: verifying and monitoring the activities of SSDs and All Flash * FAS (AFF) platforms, displaying export policies applied to qtrees, and reporting caching policies of a volume * Two-node MetroCluster™ configuration: tracking two-node configuration for link down issues using Node-Bridge, Inter Node, Node Stack, and Automatic Unplanned Switchover events * Configuring and installing Unified Manager for high availability in a Veritas Cluster Server (VCS) on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux system and Microsoft® Cluster Server on a Windows® system to provide failover * Providing authentication over a secure connection * Customizing alert scripts and associating the scripts to alerts, and monitoring events using alerts * Performing scheduled backups of Unified Manager, and restoring the backup to a local system or a remote system * Groups: creating groups to manage storage objects and configuring volume thresholds as required for members of the group * You can create, edit, or delete groups, group actions, and group rules * Enhancement to annotations * Support for using CLI commands in Unified Manager * Fast notifications for MetroCluster configurations * Enhancement to import reports feature * IPv6 addressing support for virtual appliances, Linux systems, and Windows servers
