Is there a way to determine the port a stack is plugged into on the IO modules on the back of the shelves? I know I can trace them, but that's not so sexy. I have the in and out on the node side, but wanted to identify the other side of the stack.
This is what I tried from each node, but the output was the same.

Hey Steve Does "sasadmin shelf" show you what you need?

* 6250's
* DOT 8.2p2 CM; 2 node <FCP>
* 3 stacks
Is there a way to determine the port a stack is plugged into on the IO modules on the back of the shelves? I know I can trace them, but that's not so sexy. I have the in and out on the node side, but wanted to identify the other side of the stack.
This is what I tried from each node, but the output was the same.

Is there a way to determine the port a stack is plugged into on the IO modules on the back of the shelves? I know I can trace them, but that's not so sexy. I have the in and out on the node side, but wanted to identify the other side of the stack.
This is what I tried from each node, but the output was the same.

There are several techniques. You can trace SAS cables by serial numbers. Or you can use sasadmin expander output to match in and out by WWN.
sys:~ # rsh sapdr sasadmin expander 0a.0 WWN 500a09800089b9ff, ID 0, Serial Number '6500053569' Manufacturer: Vendor 'NETAPP ', Product 'DS224IOM6E ', Rev '0131', Level 1, Slot A … PHY[ 4/P1:0/S]: 6.0 Gb/s, Expander 500a098000cdcaff PHY[ 5/P1:1/S]: 6.0 Gb/s, Expander 500a098000cdcaff PHY[ 6/P1:2/S]: 6.0 Gb/s, Expander 500a098000cdcaff PHY[ 7/P1:3/S]: 6.0 Gb/s, Expander 500a098000cdcaff …
sys:~ # rsh sapdr sasadmin expander 0a.1 WWN 500a098000cdcaff, ID 1, Serial Number '6500052929' Manufacturer: Vendor 'NETAPP ', Product 'DS224IOM6 ', Rev '0151', Level 2, Slot A PHY[ 0/P0:0/T]: 6.0 Gb/s, Expander 500a09800089b9ff PHY[ 1/P0:1/T]: 6.0 Gb/s, Expander 500a09800089b9ff PHY[ 2/P0:2/T]: 6.0 Gb/s, Expander 500a09800089b9ff PHY[ 3/P0:3/T]: 6.0 Gb/s, Expander 500a09800089b9ff …
P0 is square and P1 is circle. So in this case cable goes out of circle port of FAS2240 (ID 0) into square port of DS2246 (ID 1). And you can confirm whether this is side A or B using expander_map:
sys:~ # rsh sapdr sasadmin expander_map

You want to know the shelf port or the controller/node port?
sasadmin expander [port] lists IOM slot letters, but I don’t know of a way to see specific ports.

There are several techniques. You can trace SAS cables by serial numbers. Or you can use sasadmin expander output to match in and out by WWN.
sys:~ # rsh sapdr sasadmin expander 0a.0 WWN 500a09800089b9ff, ID 0, Serial Number '6500053569' Manufacturer: Vendor 'NETAPP ', Product 'DS224IOM6E ', Rev '0131', Level 1, Slot A ... PHY[ 4/P1:0/S]: 6.0 Gb/s, Expander 500a098000cdcaff PHY[ 5/P1:1/S]: 6.0 Gb/s, Expander 500a098000cdcaff PHY[ 6/P1:2/S]: 6.0 Gb/s, Expander 500a098000cdcaff PHY[ 7/P1:3/S]: 6.0 Gb/s, Expander 500a098000cdcaff ...
sys:~ # rsh sapdr sasadmin expander 0a.1 WWN 500a098000cdcaff, ID 1, Serial Number '6500052929' Manufacturer: Vendor 'NETAPP ', Product 'DS224IOM6 ', Rev '0151', Level 2, Slot A PHY[ 0/P0:0/T]: 6.0 Gb/s, Expander 500a09800089b9ff PHY[ 1/P0:1/T]: 6.0 Gb/s, Expander 500a09800089b9ff PHY[ 2/P0:2/T]: 6.0 Gb/s, Expander 500a09800089b9ff PHY[ 3/P0:3/T]: 6.0 Gb/s, Expander 500a09800089b9ff ...
P0 is square and P1 is circle. So in this case cable goes out of circle port of FAS2240 (ID 0) into square port of DS2246 (ID 1). And you can confirm whether this is side A or B using expander_map:
sys:~ # rsh sapdr sasadmin expander_map

You want to know the shelf port or the controller/node port?
sasadmin expander [port] lists IOM slot letters, but I don't know of a way to see specific ports.

Wow, that was cool, but no, it shows the shelves and ID's but what port is it in?

* 6250's
* DOT 8.2p2 CM; 2 node <FCP>
* 3 stacks
Is there a way to determine the port a stack is plugged into on the IO modules on the back of the shelves? I know I can trace them, but that's not so sexy. I have the in and out on the node side, but wanted to identify the other side of the stack.
This is what I tried from each node, but the output was the same.

Square port of IOM6-A in shelf 10 is connected to HBA and circle port goes to some other shelf. Square port of IOM6-B in shelf 14 is connected to another shelf and circle port goes to HBA. Is it what you asked?
Information in “sasadmin expander” is related to specific IOM so of course it remains the same whether you look from the first or the second filer.

And you can confirm whether this is side A or B using expander_map:
sys:~ # rsh sapdr sasadmin expander_map

sasadmin expander [port] lists IOM slot letters, but I don’t know of a way to see specific ports.

Hey Steve Does “sasadmin shelf” show you what you need?

• 6250's

• 3 stacks
Is there a way to determine the port a stack is plugged into on the IO modules on the back of the shelves? I know I can trace them, but that’s not so sexy.

Wow, that was cool, but no, it shows the shelves and ID’s but what port is it in?

• 6250's
• DOT 8.2p2 CM; 2 node <FCP>
• 3 stacks
Is there a way to determine the port a stack is plugged into on the IO modules on the back of the shelves? I know I can trace them, but that’s not so sexy. I have the in and out on the node side, but wanted to identify the other side of the stack.
This is what I tried from each node, but the output was the same.
