Hey toasters,
I’m trying to repurpose one of my old FAS3240 systems and have booted it up today just to be greeted with the following panic on one of the two controllers:

Or maybe a bad dimm? Could be any number of things on an old system that’s been sitting around. Probably powered down all this time?

If you want to repurpose it and it’s not productive simplest way would be to 4a it and update to 8.2.5. Or maybe latest 8.1.x version if you’re not able to get new 28-char length license keys. But if I remember correctly if you update 7-Mode 8.1 directly to 8.2 the installed licenses would still be valid.

Oh, yah – that definitely looks like it. I’ll try to 4a with 8.1.4P10 now; second controller didn’t even boot at all, not even with 8.3.2 netboot and threw further error messages:
NetApp Data ONTAP 8.3.2P12 Invalid time in real time clock. Check and reset the date immediately!
C-I configuration detected but the IOXM doesn't seem to be responding. Please reseat the IOXM and power cycle the chassis.
Also, both loaders wrote „Loader-A>“ on the loader prompt – so maybe something with the CI as indicated by the message above? I’ve now pulled out the IOXM on both controllers and will try to upade them to the latest version to see if maybe a firmware upgrade fixes the issues and will report back later.
Thanks for the insights so far!

might be worth while to restart all over:
boot to LOADER prompt:
LOADER-A> set-defaults
LOADER-B> set-defaults
To boot each node:
ifconfig e0a -addr=filer_addr -mask=netmask -gw=gateway -dns=dns_addr -domain=dns_domain
netboot URL
I think that can be http or tftp. Been a while. Get the netboot.tgz. Put that on your http/tftp server and boot it.
You will need your licenses. After it boots, be sure to select the menu and choose 4a.
Good luck --tmac

If you want to repurpose it and it’s not productive simplest way would be to 4a it and update to 8.2.5. Or maybe latest 8.1.x version if you’re not able to get new 28-char length license keys. But if I remember correctly if you update 7-Mode 8.1 directly to 8.2 the installed licenses would still be valid.

Short update on this front: I’ve pulled out the IOXM modules on both controllers and could successfully upgrade both nodes to 8.3.2P12 (latest and greatest for this platform). Once all the firmware updates are done, I will then reinstall the IOXM modules and see how it goes from there.
C-I also seems to work fine, `cluster show` is showing no errors, interconnects are also up. So if I’m lucky, it really only was the BURT I was hitting here.
Next update tomorrow once the IOXM’s have been reinstalled.

Looks like BURT 639665https://mysupport.netapp.com/NOW/cgi-bin/bol?Type=Detail&Display=639665. (Fixed with ONTAP 8.2)
Same Panic-string, same ONTAP 8.1.3P1: https://community.netapp.com/t5/Data-ONTAP-Discussions/Fix-Burt-639665/td-p/... https://community.netapp.com/t5/Data-ONTAP-Discussions/RPANIC-page-fault/td-...

Hey toasters,
I’m trying to repurpose one of my old FAS3240 systems and have booted it up today just to be greeted with the following panic on one of the two controllers:

Any insights on what might be the issue here? Needless to say, there’s no maintenance anymore on this system so opening a support case is not possible 😊
Thanks,
