Constrained Access Model

Have an internal requirement to set up some file share space that is fairly restricted. While we can isolate access of course with ACLs (AD environment), we're also looking for a way to generate access reports for the data. The users would also like to restrict the ability to copy the data (though OK to view). The last one sounds like a non-starter to me. :) The ability to report on all ACL change activity would also be nice (though maybe could find some 3rd party tool for this). Am thinking that we could use fsecurity to enforce permissions (not allow someone to override) and explore CIFS audit logs to generate reports on access. Perhaps there is a slicker approach though or some pre-existing tool that would make at least the access reporting easier (assuming turning on CIFS auditing would generate some overhead). OSSV / SnapVault Newbie - Scheduling an automatic update.

7-Mode ONTAP 7.1.2P4 as a secondary system and OSSV on Windows as a primary. I have a relationship established and have been doing manual, periodic "snapvault update"s to bring across changes. I want to schedule this, but I'm not sure that snapvault snap sched is what I'm after or not. It seems to be about retaining snapshots of data and really I just want to keep one copy -- as up to date as possible (once an hour or so). We're preparing for a migration. Maybe I do something like: snapvault snap sched -x <vol_name> hourly 1@mon-fri@0-23 ? Thanks, Ray

We verify only the Nightlys and Weeklys, not the Hourlys. We only do this because we also have Single Mailbox Recovery and it seems to complain if you mount an unverified snapshot. Random/Sequential measurement on Filers

Hi, I'm trying to characterize the workload on our Netapp Filer running VMware over NFS and iSCSI for benchmarking purposes using IOmeter. Is it possible to determine what the percentage random sequential distribution the workload is on a Filer e.g from a perfstat? flow control and 10g interfaces - ifgrps and vlans

Can flow control be disabled on a vlan interface? I tried in a simulator and It spits back "SIOCSFLOWCONTROL - Operation not supported by device" In the same simulator I can enable or disable it directly on the interface. C-mode & ARP cache...

Does anyone know if a C-mode filer does a gratuitous ARP when it fails a port over? Got a VM issue I'm trying to resolve. reallocate effect on snapmirror and snapvault

Hi, I'm thinking of running a "reallocate start -p" on a couple volumes that are showing high latency disk accesses for luns. The volume is a source for both snapmirror and snapvault operations. I was reading up on this command and I can't find any real info on the effect of running this on the snapmirror and snapvault operations. Question: If I run a "reallocate start -p" on a volume, will snapmirror/snapvault see this and send all reallocated blocks? Also, can snapmirror/snapvault operations be running during the reallocate?
