Snapmanager Exchange - Archived Backups with OnCommand (DFM)

Hello, my Name is Juergen Roth and I´m a Systemadministrator for Windows Server and Netapp Filers. We have two FAS3040 as a HA-Cluster. On the „primary“ we have a qtree with a Exchange LUN. This LUN is a RDM for the one Exchange Server. We use Snapmanager Exchange for Backup the Public Folder and Mailbox Database (only one Databse). We take the OnCommand Server for a Data Protection Job and archive the Snapshots from the „primary“ to the „secondary“ filer in a extra volume only for the Data Protection Job. Another Server hast he Snapmanager Exchange with SingleMailboxRecovery (SMBR) for doing restores. On all Servers we have the same Versions of SnapDrive and Snapmanager Exchnage. Now the Problem: The Snapshot Backups on the „primary“ filer can directly opened with SMBR. The archived Backups On the „secondary“ filer can not opened directly. Following error message comes: [cid:image001.png@01CF379C.6B1DBA90] We can manual mount the Snapshot in SnapDrive and then we can starting SMBR for using this Mount. But thats not the way, because our IT Service should do restores. Flash Pools, without the Flash?

So I got a price quote on Netapp's Flash drives that you stick into a Flash Pool and having my eyebrows rise off my forehead. Of course Netapp's prices are/were no worse than EMC's prices for single SSD drives, etc. Basically crazy expensive in both cases. Now I'm entertaining the silly idea of just using a mix of SAS and SATA drives in a flash pool instead. Get *some* of the advantages, but lots cheaper pricing. Esp using those big fat slow 4Tb drives in the dual drive sleds. Front them with a bunch of SAS disks and it should do quite nicely. God knows there shouldn't be any technical reason this can't work, it's just a matter of moving blocks from one raidgroup in an aggregate to another. But the Netapp technical sales guy was surprised by the suggestion. I'm loving the transition of SSDs into the enterprise space, because it's forcing all kinds of changes on the vendors that are long overdue. Just putting a pair of mirrored SSDs into a server is a big boost. Using it to cache is good too. What do others think? John

Sorry, I just realized I wasn’t specific enough (not enough coffee yet this morning). I’m specifically thinking about the 3220 and 3250. You can’t use the cards that worked in the 3210 and 3240 in them. Supressing certain DFM alerts

Hi, In Operations Manger (OnCommand UM 5.2) I have an alarm set to email me on all error or worse events. This works fine, however I have an OSSV host at the end of a lossy satellite link that sends me host/host agent down emails all the time. Is there a way to suppress DFM alerts for a particular host? Orphaned volume entries in c-mode VLDB

Hey all, We had a number of volume creates happen on our 8.0.3 (admittedly ancient, but not upgraded due to lack of support) c-mode cluster, during a period of excessive load, when the target filer/aggregate was having some sort of problem. This led to the following type of entries in syslog: Feb 27 19:06:34 filer2a mgwd: mgmtgwd.jobmgr.jobcomplete.failure: Job "Vol Create" [id 208390] (Create v181771) completed unsuccessfully: Failed to create the volume on node. Reason: Node is not healthy. This may leave the volume record in the Volume Location Database. (1). Whatever problem this node was having at the time corrected itself shortly thereafter. This appears to have not created the actual volume on disk, but has also indeed left an orphaned record of that volume in the VLDB. 'set diag; volume lost-found show' doesn't return any results either. So it would appear we do indeed have a number of bogus volume entries in the VLDB. Doing a 'vol delete v181771' yields: ERROR: command failed on entry "dd v181771": Unable to lookup volume attributes for volume v181771. Reason: success Question is, is there a sane/safe way to clear these out of the VLDB? Thanks for any help!

We have two systems and their flexscale output is given below. System with the low hit percentage is a very busy system with Network shares, Exchange 2010 and VMware on it. I am seeing very low hit percentage for flexcache and want to know if this should be a concern. Thanks. I actually ended up running: dest> snapvault snap sched -x napc2_p2_EFT1 eft_sched 1@mon-sun@0,6,12,18 Am I correct in assuming that the "sv_hourly" name isn't significant? I couldn't find any indication in the man pages that it was, but may have missed something. I now have the following snaps: dest> snap list napc2_p2_EFT1 Volume napc2_p2_EFT1 working... %/used %/total date name ---------- ---------- ------------ -------- 0% ( 0%) 0% ( 0%) Feb 04 13:03 eft_sched.0 1% ( 1%) 0% ( 0%) Feb 04 12:49 red-str-napc2-p2(1574798766)_napc2_p2_EFT1-base.0 (busy,snapvault) 25% (25%) 9% ( 9%) Feb 02 08:34 schedule_02022014_074939.0 The "schedule_02022014_074939.0" may be one I attempted to schedule from System Manager and then removed. Presumably this snapshot is safe to delete. My intent is to ultimately convert this volume/qtree into writeable mode via NetApp KB 1010906. I haven't tried this with anything but the "base" snapshot present. I'm hopeful this won't cause any issues or confusion, but guess I can give it a test run.
