You should create a share on the snapshot. If you have NT security, the ftp users, which are Unix based, have to be successfully mapped to NT accounts. You can tell if that is happening by using the "wcc -u <ftpuser>" command. For example, if you are attempting to use a user "ftp" to access a file you have to be able to successfully run "wc -u ftp". That will show the mapping and groups for that user. If you turn on the cifs.trace_login option it will show step-by-step the mapping process. Of course, you also have to give enough rights to the mapped user to be able to access the files in question. CIFS permissions problem on restore

We are testing a restore from tape on to our non clustered 820. We are using Veritas Data Center 3.41 and the security seems to get lost on the restore. Currently we are using CIFS exclusively on this filer, and we are running ONTAP 6.01 r3. The backup an restore are initiated by our backup server which is running Solaris 2.8 64 bit and we are using NDMP. We are licensed for NIS, but currently are not using this feature. Any ideas? Hi Dave, I tried to configure ftp for our cifs only server. It seems to work only on volumes with security-style unix and a qtree within that volume with secstyle unix. If you're so inclined, you can also do this in the filerview GUI if you have (I believe) version 6.x. So, does anyone out there do backups via a share? What I've been doing is mapping a drive to the appropriate place, then backing up from the ~snapshot/nightly.0/ directory. I'm having a problem with my filer. I'm sure this has been answered before, but I couldn't find the answer. The filer is working great with existing network, using e0. When I try to bring up another network card on a seperate network, the filer tries to register the new ip with the WINS server on the first network. That operation barfs, then it looses communication with the DC (you can ping the DC, but "cifs testdc" fails) If I shutdown the new interface, communications with the DC resume. Everything seems to work fine during the period in which it is out of communication with the DC. I don't want it to register the new IP with the WINS server or DC (Can I stop that?). Solaris ACLs on NetApps

About 2 years ago, we had a discussion about whether or not Solaris ACLs were supported by NetApp. They weren't but there was an RFE in for it. Does anyone know what the current state is? Should have my 880 in the data center on Friday. I'll let you know what the general consensus is... Yeah, the faceplate will be nice, but I'm looking more forward to the flawless Outhouse-like crate the racks ship in. I'm planning on bringing in my sawzall to cut a half-moon in the door. I think next we ought to have a gleaming black, or maybe a rich charcoal... or better yet, just have a custom grille color selection and paint 'em to order. :-) Right.
