Seems there was a thread that touched on this not long ago. I think the limit was actually 256 characters, and I believe it does apply. Will have to go back to check, though. Paul, I use Carrierscan but I recall that I did the following... Created an account in the domain for the virus scanning product (carrierscan in my case) to use. I placed that accound in Domain Users and Backup Operators in the domain. In addition I had to put the domain account in the local Backup Operators group on the Filer itself. With that I was able to enable vscan, start and stop the services on the scanning box and the Filer recognized the scanner and registered without a problem. Yes. The command "CIFS sessions" returns the list of clients and the number of files they have open. NetShield scanner can't register

VSCAN Gurus, My F720 filer (6.1.1R2) is showing the following message: "Virus scanner "IP-address" attempted to register but had insufficient privilege." Since I don't have any registered scanners, I still have left vscan off. My scanner is a Dell box running 2000 Advanced Server. I have McAFee NetShield 4.5 for NT and 2000 installed, along with Service Pack 1 that comes on the NetShield 4.5 for NetApps demo CD. On top of this, I have NetShield for NetApps installed. My scanner is on the same NT resource domain as the filer. The scanning account has membership in both the Domain Admins and Backup Operators groups on this domain's PDC. The Properties window of the NetShield for NetApps console confirms that the AV is running, and that the filer that I'm trying to connect to displays "filer error" (confirming the filer's error message). Gigabit ethernet performance

Does anybody knows what kind of performance I can expect from using the Gigabit ethernet on Solaris/NetApp? For example, if mkfile 1024m 1gbfile on a NFS mounted netapp volume thru the gbit interface, how many seconds of response time is considered to be reasonable? I'm getting about 30secs, while I'm hoping within 12secs, am I dreaming? Thanks, -May --

unix style to ntfs and back

hi, i have a question about security style reversion. we converted a unix qtree to ntfs and applied acls. there was a problem and i had to revert back to the unix style almost immediately after creating the acls. now i want to convert the same qtree to ntfs again. the question is will the acls that i originally put in place still be there after i convert to ntfs? the unix perms were there when i went ntfs back to unix, but it may not be the same going from unix to ntfs. anybody ever seen or done this? ontap 6.1.1r2 thanks. -- regards
