Amazon gift certificate

Filer Storage Charge Back?

Are there any good utilities (other than quota reports) that NetApp provides or any recommended 3rd Party application that can be used to create a monthly charge back report based on storage allocated to a particular user? Filer takeover

Hello, I fail to understand the following sentence: "When you configure virtual interfaces for takeover, you must specify the interface name and not the IP address." I have one vif in each filer, separate ones, trunk1=192.168.1.103 on 1st filer and trunk1=192.168.1.104 on 2nd filer. Does the previous sentence mean I have to put: ifconfig trunk1 192.168.1.103 mediatype 100tx-fd partner trunk1 ? That doesn't make much sense. Tried also ifconfig trunk1 192.168.1.103 mediatype 100tx-fd partner 192.168.1.104 but keep getting partner 192.168.1.104 (not in use). This is a step change that I've been waiting about 18 months for * tape is much shorter therefore read times much faster * silicon head gives much closer tracks (and is less susceptible to alignment errors due to heat expansion) * tape is native 600GB capacity * 64MB per second transfer * third generation product is predicted at 2.4TB per tape, and 256MB per second <g> Obviously still to get here, but if (like me) you have a large DLT platform and were thinking of using SDLT as a compatible upgrade, it might be worth hanging on with DLT8000 drives, and change to O-MASS in a year or two. Currently I'm still liking LTO because it has 15MB/sec sustained rates per drive plus a 100G native capacity, but right now it probly comes down to cost more than anything. In which case, if you buy a robot, buy bigger than you need to so you can scale later. As for which is best specifically for a Filer, I know that you supposedly can put a robot directly onto a head, but I haven't seen anyone do it, and probly would opt to use a seperate gig-network with a dedicated backup server and anything I wanted on the back end of it. Simply centrally logging events, using a log-parsing tool such as Swatch, and then appplying appropriate filtering rules over time results in a pretty decent signal-noise ratio of "significant" events that merit watching. You still need some other stuff (ex: simple remote monitoring via ping/CIFS/NFS functionality), and doesn't help you too much in the performance area, but syslog is good stuff IMHO. alek P.S. I dont think Multiplexing is on. I will check. Its a 7 slot robot with 1 drive. Hello Mighty Toasters, As some may have noticed recently, I've become very interested in monitoring tool development for the filers. I've recently had a minor breakthrough using SNMP tables and mutli-dimensional arrays in PERL. This is particularly interesting because it gives me the ability to develope tools that can run sorts on the raid tables, disk usage tables, and more. Here's the problem, most of the tools I'm building now have little to no value. They are amusing and fun to write, but especially if you use FilerView these tools are useless. While this is a credit to NetApp, I'm curious if there are any tools people would like to see. What types of monitoring tools would you guys like to see? Performance tools are pretty well taken care of with MRTG and Cricket, though it would be fairly simple to use an snmp polling loop to drop files into either a MySQL/PostGreSQL backend or maybe just a BerkleyDB and then run GNUplot on 'em for a more simplified Cricket replacement, but since Cricket is so trusted it's unlikely for any of my tools be replace it. In essence, I've solved the problems I need to solve and now what to find some way to use all the kool tricks I've learned in the proccess. Ideas? Quantum/ATL P14000, gigabit Ethernet sdlt -- anyone else using this?

We recently purchased a Quantum/ATL P14000 (2xP7000), configured with Gigabit Ethernet sdlt tape drives on a Cisco switch. We are using Workstation Solutions QuickRestore, version 2.7.10. We're trying to backup Netapps (F760s, 840s, 880s) via a Solaris QR host. Unsuccessfully. Is anyone else using the P7000 or P14000 changer? With Gig SDLT? With QR? Our challenges are legion. Hi all. We've been using DLT7000 drives off the back of our 740's for some time now, and are looking to upgrade. According to the NOW site, NetApps supports the SuperDL220, AIT-3 and some of the LTO's, among others. Capacity and throughput are somewhat close across the three types, I'm curious for any thoughts on which is preferred? Any horror stories on any of these with Filers? Thanks
