FAS 270 / LDAP / Samba

Hello We are going to purchase a FAS 270 box and I need some sysadmin feedback on this machine. Usage will be NFS and CIFS, anybody knows if samba is supported on this ONTAP version ( 7.0.2 ) and if OpenLDAP is natively supported too ? Thanks a lot -- Cordialement Frank Bonnet

We're planning the upgrade to OnTap 7.x early next year, I wouldn't like to trigger something like that then. Hi, excuse my domain of the english. - With Windows, everything is OK. Filer CPU is <10% workload. OK - LUN Space reserve is disabled. Does it have any impact on performance? This choice are important. If LUN Space reserve is disabled, the performance in the LUN can be impacted. NetApp recommends enable this option in order to obtain best performance. Enable this option, wait any hours ans test the performance in Novell. - We use 2 NICs in the Novell Server, one NIC to LAN and the other for iSCSI to the NetApp. OK - Our CPU workload is >20% on the Novell Server OK - No iSCSI HBA exists with Novell driver OK, the workload in the CPU is low. Please, review the performance in other protocols over the same volume. As CIFS or NFS to obtaint the cause of the problem. Yo can try obtain IOmeter software from Intel Website to test performance in Linux, Solaris, Windows and Netware. Iometer can be used to test NICs and Storage performance. Recently I've seen a lot of problems with the Intel cards automagically dropping to half-duplex regardless of the setting at the other end. That was on Linux, so YMMV. Hi Does somebody have experiences with connecting NetApp to Novell Netware over iSCSI? We have problems with throughput (only 2-3 Mbps): A lot of network-retransmits and tcp-window errors on the Novell side. Network cable and adapter is ok. Environment: - NetApp FAS3020 - Netware 4-Node Cluster - Netware 6.5 SP2 and SP4 - Groupwise 6.5 - Novell software initiator 1.03 and 1.04 - Intel Pro/1000 Ethernet Adapter - Point-to-Point Network connection from filer to the server without an ethernet switch Best regards Marcel

http procotol on filer

Is anyone using it. I am using it in a production environment and it sorta sucks. I realized when migrating to new filers this is actually a pay protocol. So 2 questions 1) anyone using it in a heavy manner (and your thoughts on it) 2) anyone think it's worth the money to pay for it vs throw some webservers in front of it. __________________________________ Yahoo!
